I was thinking about buying a 17  in a handi or ultra rifle and wondering what the average prices are. The local gun shop has a handi rifle in 17HMR that has comp. stock and stainless barrel for 189 dollars, is that a good price?

That sounds like a reasonable price for a stainless model.  I picked a blued/synthetic model about a month ago that was used (with the tags still attached   ) for 125.00

I think it's a good deal.
:D

The stainless Sportster is $150 here, when ya can find em, they don't appear to make it anymore. NEF doesn't make the .17hmr in any of the Ultra configurations like the 22mag, just the Sportster with the synthetic black stock. Of course, for $60-$80 you can put the laminated Ultra or camo stock on one. New sportsters blued/black sell for $130 normally here, have seen em on sale for $120.

I looked at a stainless .17hmr sportster at the Fisherman's Marine store in Oregon City, Oregon last March when I was looking at .17Hmrs.  I also saw a shooter sighting one in at Clark Rifles when I sighted my 17hmrs in last spring. Like I said, I don't think they make it now, it's not listed at HR1871.com as a current model. Good luck finding one....
