T/C New Englander .54
« on: November 29, 2004, 11:58:22 AM »
I picked up a T/C New Englander .54 left hand muzzleloader today. The price was right and I could not resist. My 20 year old Renegade will now pass on to my 11 year old son who has already taken a Buck with it this year. I cleaned it up, including removing all traces of oil from the bore and applied a liberal coat of T/C Bore Butter to all the needed surfaces. Now I need to get to the range and work up some round ball/patch loads. It may have to be in 2005 as the deer season is still open here until New Year's day and there is a new set of huge buck tracks in my  hunting area. So much to do and so little time.

I'm a lefty but I bought a right handed model so I could get the shotgun barrel.  It's great rolling a bunny with a black powder shotgun.

I also tried the hornady 240 mag. sabot with the same load ,both bullets do shoot outstanding great gun easy to carry afield all day, will print softball groups at the 100 yard target all day. :D

Riddleofsteel, I picked up one of these last year, and although I haven't got around to trying a patched ball yet, mine sure does like a Hornady Great Plains bullet over a charge of Goex 2F. Good shootin guns.

I started out with my .50 Renegade using the T/C Maxi Hunter. It was accurate and provided 45-70 equivalent performance out of a muzzleloader.  it was only when I went to plastic sabots that I started having trouble. I think I will clean out both barrels .50 and .54, season them with Bore Butter and start shooting balls again. They load faster and easier are are pretty accurate out of a 1:48 twist. If I can get the accuracy I want 2005 will be a round ball year with two T/C's in the field.
