The whole idea behund the pvc set is its eye appeal. There was a guy on trapperman that has used them and claims they are very effective. Any object that has eye appeal will make a critter work the set. Whether its a rock log or piece of pvc sticking out of the ground. Worm

I've used 1 1/2 pipe sticking out of the ground for coon and fox. I like to add a few to each spot I'm trapping. Worth using.
