a person much wiser than i once said "you have be "handi" to make these rifles shot good !"
i have;
22 rf sporty - misfired
22 rf sporty (#2) (note 1)
17 hmr sporty - misfired
243 ultra varmint (note 1)
357 mag synthetic (note 1)
223 synthetic really bad machining
a handi with the following accessory barrels:
22 hornet (shoots great !)
30-30 winchester
30-06
357 magnum (original barrel)
45-70 gubbermint (shoots 10" high at 100 yards with factory ammo)
12 gauge rifled slug (sent by accident by the factory, i bought it anyway)
.410 (broke firing pin on a bob white hunt)
and;
28 gauge pardner (note 1)
410 pardner (gap between barrel and receiver, gun pops open)
410 pardner (#2) (note 1)
20 gauge pardner (really bad tool marks)
12 gauge 32" turkey cannon pardner (note 1)
"note 1" means that this gun was NOT returned shortly after purchase for repairs or rework. every other gun was sent back ! now it just may be my bad luck or i am picky or whatever. but clear in my mind still is the 7 weeks i waited to get my 17 HMR sporty and then an additional 4 week wait while the factory made it fire more than 50% of the rounds i fed through it.
my handi with all the barrels was sent back for a new firing pin. they said it was well worn. this was my first "wear out" return. yeah !
as long as the bore is within reasonable limits, you can make these guns shoot good with hand loads, o-rings, loose forearms screws, etc. etc, the list of tricks is endless. would i give them up for anything ? NEVER !!!!! they are just too much fun !
