I am not up on bullet spec's. Three of the bullet size's you can get on a 92 Hartford is 45C,.357 and 44MG.I have never hunted with 45C so I would like an opinion on what the largest game you could expect to hunt with this catridge/ Would there be any improvement going to the .357 are should you go to the 44MG?

45C can be purchased in what I call heavy or MAG loads. Does anyone know if the Hartford will stand up to these hotter loads.

The 92 is one of the strongest lever actions out there. It should be fine with those loads. I use them in mine. With them it's really more than either the .357 or .44 Mag. Mine is really accurate too. But you are limited to iron sights, no way to scope them.

Thanks for the information. My pistol is 45C so I was leaning towards getting the rifle in 45C. If there was the possibility that someone might hunt with the Hartford 92. Out of the four offered on the 92 45C,.357,44mag and 44/40 which would you prefer. When you get old you have to ask a lot of questions sometimes.

I've got the .45 Colt because I picked it up for use in CAS and was using same in my handguns. If I were getting one to hunt with I'd personally buy the .44 Magnum. I also got mine with the 20" octagon barrel to "look better" in CAS. If I were getting it just for plinking and hunting use not CAS I'd get the 20" round barrel or maybe even the longer 24" barrel for longer sight radius since factory irons are all you get.

Mine has the old buckhorn sights which I really don't care that much for but for under 100 yards they work OK. I have an LSI Puma in .357 Mag which has far superior sights on it but also has that stupid little safety lever on top of bolt which I sure don't like. It's a 20" round barrel and I sure like that configuration and sights better. Lighter and handier to carry.

I like the 45 colt round ... always have.. I think the 92 action in 45 colt is one of the most versitile little guns out there. You can load it heavy for large game or down for plinking , CAS or smaller game IF you are a handloader. You can say the same about the 44 mag and it makes much more sence if you are not a handloader. Ammo is much more abundant and a little cheaper for the 44 mag. Either will kill deer no problem.... I have killed several with my 92 Rossi in 45 colt.

I'm with you, WD45.........the .45 Colt in the '92 is the way to go. Handloading offers the ability to surpass the .44 Mag, if that's what you're after. No disrespect intended to .44mag aficionados. jd45.
