Great looking stock set roostertails, what caliber barrel is that and more importantly to me how long is that barrel? I am trying to figure out what my 19" .280 barrel will look like with one of those nice long forearms....Thanks....<><....

What kind of rear site do you have on the barrel and what brand/diameter/model number is the barrel band??? It all looks good!!!

Everyone here that orders something from Gunstocks Inc should mention that we are a member of this group of Handi-holics at GB's and that way they may do something noice for us, a little discount, a special run or perhaps new model, who knows, perhaps an inlay in the stock that says " My name is ____ and I'm a Handiholic!!!"....<><.... :-D

That's a nice looking rig.  How are you going to handle the forearm?  I assume it will be basically free floated?  I'm curious because I have the synthetic that just squeezes the barrel, and I'm looking for alternatives.

Hmmmm, another question.  My plastic forearm has the hinge piece built in, not a separate piece.  If I got one of these custom stocks, where could I buy the hinge piece.  Or would I have to buy an old factory wood set off of somebody just for this?

Thanks,

Matt

MSP Ret,
I bought this handi used so I don't know what model the barrel band swivel stud is, the rear site is just a flip up type.
I will install a rail and scope on this gun, the barrel is a 22" 45/70 caliber, when I talked to the stock maker they said the forend could be cut to any length and they thought they were going to be making a classic style buttstock with beaded cheek-piece in the near future for use with open site guns.
I got the stocks from Gunstocks Inc., here is the link to their webpage with the stocks,

http://www.gunstocksinc.com/web%20pages/Plate%20Pic's/NEF%20stocks/Handi-rifle%20stocks.htm

I have been thinking about pillar bedding the forend.

I will probably have to get me another handi just so i can get another set of stocks.

Keep an eye on this guy that inlay may be a small but obscure lil thing that has to be read with a magnifying glass and it might say" If found return to MSP Ret and his address..."    :-D

270 Handiman you can order the piece in question from H&R and if ya don't like the plastic one I believe they have one in metal although pricy :D

270Handiman, while you're ordering the metal forend spacer ya might as well order the metal trigger guard, too if you're interested.  Mac11700 says they cost a bit less as a kit than if they are ordered separately, although quite expensive anyway you look at it. He'll check in here soon, I'm sure. I've been trying to order em everyday this week, but they(H&R) either don't answer the phone or the wait is too long since it's not toll free!

Thanks deadeye.  The plastic is just part of the forearm, and not a separate piece, so I will have to order a metal one.  I'm thinking about the black-grey laminate or just a satin finished walnut look.

I've got to float this dang barrel somehow.

Matt

It's $69 for the kit. Link below to Mac's original post about it.  If you have wood or laminated stocks, the spacer is separate, screwed on, if you have synthetic stocks, the spacer is part of the forend and the metal spacer won't work.

For those that don't want to spring the $30.00 to $70.00 for the single steel piece for the rear of the forearm (spacer) or for the kit with the spacer and steel trigger guard, I think the replacement plastic spacers that comes standard on all handi's with factory wooden stocks are about $3.00 plus shipping. I suggest you get one of each thickness ( possibly 3 total). The shipping is the same and you can use the different ones (vary by thousandts of an inch) to achieve a perfect fit. You can always use the others to correct the forearm fit of any used barrels you may buy....<><....

Deadeye, What a great idea!!! But in case anyone here misses that teeny-weeny printing, if you do find a handi(s) just send it to me, I sure it's mine...at least it will be after you send it to me, a win-win situation!!!... :-D

Love your stock, post pictures when you finish it and give the rundown on the spacer business.
