Reloading for the BLR
« on: December 01, 2004, 05:02:15 PM »
Right now I just use the Lee classic reloader for my .308 Ruger which I may sell for a BLR. I'm wondering if I'll need to get standard dies for my press or even go to small based dies. It seems that there should be no reason to neck size unless the BLR has an extra tight chamber. Anybody have knowledge regarding this?    Thanks

..............You usually don't "neck" size for auto and lever guns due to the lack of camming power of the action compared to bolt guns.....as for small base dies??? most lever guns that I have loaded for didn't need them..........I haven't tried any Lee hand dies in a lever gun and use standard dies in a couple of different presses.......I usually stick to mid range loading in the manuals and don't load the rounds quite as "hot" as for some bolt guns that are in same calibers......I only have one friend that has a Browning lever gun and it works well and he loves it for the way it handles for him......good luck and good shooting-loading!!

Have used Pacific, RCBS and Lee dies for my three BLR's over 30 years.  In fact all three brands in the .308.  Load everything to full power and have never found a need for small base dies.  Careful headspace adjustment, yes but not small base.
