7600 in 35 Whelen

Is the 35 Whelen a standard or limited edition caliber in the 7600. Saw one at a store that peaked my interest.

They were standard for a while, but now they have become a limited run item. Grice's Gunshop in Clearfield, PA has limited runs made up of them. If you have no experience with a 35 Whelen, you need to then. They are awesome! Check out the semi auto and pump hunting rifle forum. There are discussions there about the 7600's in 35 Whelen.

257Robt is absolutely correct.  The .35 in the 7600 is one great gun.  It can be down-loaded to .358 Win. or .35 Rem. for a close range deer brush gun or stuffed with 250 grain round noses and becomes a grizz and moose killer.  Even .357 pistol bullets and be used to make it an interesting varmit cartridge.

I love mine.  Haven't recovered a bullet yet in moose or caribou. It usually goes through them.

Is yours one of the new Grice's limited run CDL's? Or one of the older R700s from back when it was a standard catalog item?

I have one of the Grice CDL's. I need to get the scope on it and put a few rounds together for it. I've not yet ordered any cases but I have many hundreds of once fired .30-06 so making up some should be no problem. Just getting my "round tuit" is all that stands between me and it being shooting. Mine sure is light for a .35 Whelen. Feels about a pound short of the listed weight.

I had been keeping my eye out for a 700 Classic in 35 Whelen(1998?), but lately I have been looking for a Browning BLR in 358 Win. However the limited run 7600 got me thinking.
Is the 700CDL a limited run also?

What do you folks think, the 7600, CDL, or BLR?

In the case of the .35 Whelen yes. Grice's has contracted with Remington to make them. I think (but am not certain on this) they take orders until a set quantity is reached and then have Remington make them. The reason I say this is the flow of them is not constant but varies. I think it is a 2004 item only so if you want one you'd be wise to get moving on it.

The CDL is pretty much the same rifle as the Classic and in fact the C in CDL stands for Classic. Barrels on all CDLs are 24" for standard and 26" for magnum chamberings. Barrel contour is a bit heavier than the Mountain Rifles but not quite same as standard BDL I don't think. I know this one of mine sure is a bit lighter than it's stated weight. Holding in hand it feels lighter than either of my LSS Mtn. Rifles. Now that is without scope but the scopes I have on them are small and not very heavy. For sure it's not going to weight more than them and is supposed to be about a pound heavier.

As to which to buy it really depends on what kinda rifle do you want to shoot? One is a bolt, one a lever and one a pump action. What rifle action do you really want to use for hunting? That is the one to chose which ever you like best. If it were me chosing I'd still choose what I did, the CDL.

Bolt or pump?

The main reason I bought the pump is because I am left handed. The 7600 is so simular to the 870 that shooting it is a natural.  It points very quickly and a second shot is very quick too.

In all the years that I have had the 7600 (since 88) the only problem I have ever had was a bent lip on the magazine.

I wish Remington would make one in stainless though.

Graybeard--- from what I gathered from my talk with the man a Gamaliel shooting supply in Gamaliel Ky. he ordered it from his supplier I took it that didn't come from Grace in Pa. I may be wrong. If I think about it I will ask when I pick it up. :D

Grice contracted with Remington for all of the CDL's in .35 Whelen. Now whether it is possible some might ship to any other location from Remington prior to you getting them I dunno. It would stictly depend on what Grice wants to happen. No one other than Grice can order one from Remington tho. Everyone has to order them directly from Grice and Grice does get their cut on them. So to go thru another jobber in addition to Grice should just raise the price. Mine cost $579 as best as I recall total out the door price.

Remington did make the 7400 Weather Master for a bit but I no longer see it listed.  But it was not stainless; nickle plated.

Are you sure you did not see a 7400 Weather Master?  I know of no 7600 ever produced in stainless.

The 700 CDL in 35 Whelen is now a catalog item for 2005. It was a special run from Grice's in 2004.

I also have a 7600 in 35 Whelen. I bought a Nikon 3X9X40mm from Cabelas and I am in the process of ordering Warne return to zero removable mounts from Brownells for it.

Being left handed also I prefer 7400/7600 rifles. I shot the 35 Whelen with iron sights just to see how the recoil is and it was not too bad. MIKE.

I was in a shop in central Maine last week and they had 3 7600s in 35 Whelen, 3 carbines in 35 Remington, and 3 7mm-08s with a laminate stock.  All NIB and all between $450 and $525.  Didn't ask where he bought them.
