We're setting up a hunt in March down in Texas at this time. Does that fit within your time schedule?

Dates are not yet firmed up. Mark our Moderator here and his wife are going to be hunting at Rocky Top. Me and my wife will be there also but likely my wife will not hunt.

We're going to leave there and go down to Rancho la Rama Del Mezquite  http://www.texas-exotics.com/start.html for a hunt following that. I plan to hunt javelina a little native critter I've long wanted to take but have never even seen in the wild. I'll also take either an axis buck, blackbuck antelope buck or auodad most likely. My wife will hunt there but for what is not yet been determine.

Denvas and Mohawk from here have also expressed an interest in coming down for this hunt. So it's shaping up as a possible first annual GBO exotics hunt at Rancho la Rama. While there if all goes well I plan to discuss the possibility of annual hunts at the ranch with the owner. But first I want to experience it to see if I really want to set it up for that and if he is interested also.

Tentative dates at this time are March 18,19 at Rocky Top and the following Monday thru Wednesday time frame at Rancho La Rama.

Hi GB,

What kinda aoudad can one expect from Mezquite?  Can he get over 30" ????  How large is the ranch???  Could not find any of this on the website.

I was planning on Indianhead Ranch in DelRio for 2006.  I was looking for aoudad, oryx and javelina. The prices are much higher though.  Any thoughts???

Since I've not yet been to the ranch Doug I don't have answers to all those questions. Ranch is 1300 acres under fence. But the quality of animals I've not yet seen so cannot answer with any level of experience.

For sure there is a vast difference in quality of accomodations between it and Indian Head. Indian Head is one of the premiere exotic hunting preserves in the nation. It ranks right up there with the YO Ranch and 777 Ranch at least. For that you'll get a much larger ranch and five star accomodations. At Mezquite you'll get a bunk house style lodging and you cook your own meals. Vastly different experience. But as to animals I just honestly don't know.

After I get back I'll have a better feel for the answers. You might want to call John and ask him your questions. I've spoken with him several times and he seems a nice enough guy.

Hi GB,

Many thanks.  It appears that the "well"  will be a bit dry this year (2005) so I think I'll plan on Wild Hill in VT for late fall.  Looking forward to hearing your report!!!

Rocky Top fell thru. No openings until April or later. I've tried to get in touch with John at the other place and no luck. No one answers and no one returns phone call.

At this time I'm postponing trip. I've got an appointment set up with my doctor to see if the problems I'm having are an arterial blockage or not. Symptoms are too much like what too many are telling me they had before their bypass surgery. So all trips are off for me until I find out what's going on.

Tried to contact Mark all day today to let him know but never got him.

Will reschedule after I get a clean bill of health from doctor.

Graybeard-hope things work out for the better & no major health problems.  If your wanting an archery only hunt, Sweetwater Creek Bowhunting has excellent animals, lodging & they take you to & from stands.  You can use their stands or put up your own (in most cases).  They are super nice.  We will be there 4 days the end of March but it is Bowhunting only.  Jim Bob Little is the manager & his son Michael is a guide-2 nicer people you will never meet.
always thankful
