Barnes Spitzer
« on: December 03, 2004, 11:40:12 PM »
Has anyone used the new 245 grain Barnes spitzer on a deer.  I'd like to know how well it expands.  Will it expand as good as the trusty 250 grain Barnes Expander MZ?  I shot it on paper, didn't group as well as the 250 MZ with 120 grains of 777, I need to try tweaking the powder load.  I shot it over a Crony and the difference in muzzle velocity between the MZ & Spitzer got my attention.

I've shot 3 deer with it so far and have not recovered any bullets or seen any evidence of expansion. The entry and exit holes are the same size.  Ranges were 20 yds, 50 yds, and 201 yds.

I can't get them to shoot at all in my Knight. My Omega however shoots them very well.
