Marlin 883 22 mag---bolt action tube fed

ok guys i found one in great shape yesterday $160 bucks,walnut stock,how long has Marlin made this model???what a good brand ammo for it???is $160 bucks a good buy????thanks for all replies!!!!!!!!!

  I can't remember the models to good. Marlin changed them a few years back for the better. The safety use to be in the fire position pushed to the rear, the new ones have it to the front. Also they put on a rubber buttplate. I've owned a dozen of both kind and they are my favorite rifle for a do anything rifle.
   Most of the ones I've owned like the Winchester ammo, but the one I've got now will put the Winchester and the CCI max's in the same place with less than a 1 inch group at 50 yds.
   I think u did good on the money part. I've been ask 175-225 for them although I think there around 200 new.
   I jusr looked in the book. The older model was the 783 so u have the newer model.
   I've got several guns, but if I had hundreds and they said I could only keep one, that's the one I would keep. I know most would keep a shotgun, but I've never killed a turkey at 100 yds. with a shotgun.

AAAJohn-----thanks for the info.mine has the rubber butt plate and the saftey -- push forward to fire,,,,,,got the mounts on and scope (older 3x9x40 tasco) on the gun and bore sighted last night........ready to kill a arm-a-dilla.......or such (after i fine turn it on paper this week)---i wonder what year they changed the saftey? :eek:

My book shows the 780 series 1971-88 and the 880 series 1989-97.
I thought they still made the 880's but according to my book they were discontinued in 97. Any way, I have a heavy barrel Rugar stainless in the mag. It will shoot with the Marlin but not worth the extra weight to carry around.

I used to have one about 2 years ago ss laminated stock awsom rifle shot 1/2 moa at 100yds made a 125 yd shot kill on a groundhog with that rifle
if you can get one buy it a awsom gun for sure
i used the maxi mag+V
never got to use the rems though

Just wondering if it was so awsome why did you get rid of it? I have found out finally if you have a good gun keep it as the next one may not be as good! Jim
