I HAVE A 243 FROM BULLBERRY AND IT CAN SURE SHOOT BETTER THAN I CAN.  ALSO HAVE 50 CAL BP BARRELL FOR IT.  PROBABLY THE LAST GUN I'LL EVER BUY... First off, welcome to Graybeard. The reason in my opinion is the WSM's are not that popular with "most" shooters. I do not know one other hunter I have come in contact with the owns one. I personally would not get one, there is no real advantage except have a shorter action on a bolt action rifle. Like I said it is just my opinion and I am sure there are those that will disagree with me.  :D

Well, the WSMs escpecially the 300 and 270, are selling very well, and Remington just added them to their lineup for 2005. I bought my T/C Encore in 2002 in hopes the WSM barrels would be added. Not one week later, T/C released a statement saying they would not chamber for them. I wrote T/C a letter asking them why, and they said too much of the chambering had to be bored out more than they felt was safe for firing, due to how fat the cartridge is. That was the explanation given to me by T/C. I erased the email, as it was over two years ago, but had I kept it, I would have posted it here for every one to read.

On a side note, I now have a Winchester Mod. 70 SS 270 WSM, and that gun shoots great. I have shot 3/4" 100 yard 3 shot groups with it. I've yet to get a deer with it, as I shot my buck with a bow in MT this year, and my AR buck with my old .30-30 that was at my mom's house. Next year, I plan to hunt exclusively with the 270 WSM.

I believe Virgin Valley sold them for a little bit, but decided to stop because of the same concern T/C had like Hog Fan Mentioned.  Another big "worry" they had was that they were afraid of premature frame stretching.  With pressures up near or past 65,000PSI  I can understand.  The Encore is tough, but it is an open top frame style and does have limitations.  There were some Super Short Mags going around too.  But I dont know if the bbls can still be had.

300 WSM

I stopped by Bullberry and picked one up when Fred was still selling them.  It had a tight chamber and short throat and didn't like reloads much. Primmer pressure signs. I shot about 10 rounds and had the  throat opened up  100 thousands. Have not taken the time to go back out and shoot it sence.  Virgin Valley barrels had a long throat to give the bullet some room to run before hitting the rifleings. Just sits and may trade it off or have shortend and rechambered in 308. It is a 24" heavy bull in stainless. You can find some info and a pic of a Bullberry WSM @
