Getting an "enforced" holiday from shooting :>(
« on: December 05, 2004, 01:26:52 PM »
Seems like by left rotator culf has finally gone the way of the dodo.  Can't hold the barrel of my rifle or shotgun vertical; heck, can't even hold my left arm out level.  Going under the knife on the 15th.  Recovery is about 3-4 months.

Figure I can keep going to the matches and shoot my pistols but long guns are out for a long time.

Oh well, at least the prognosis looks good in the long run; and I'm alot better off than some pards so I'll be thinking about shooting this coming late spring/summer.

I'm gonna be real interested in how your recovery goes. I need it on both shoulders badly. Doc has told me to stop shooting more than rimfires but I stubbornly keep going without the surgery. Mine got pretty close to the way you are now for awhile. I took some cortisone shots and stopped doing anything for a couple weeks and got OK enough to again postpone the surgery. I've been told recovery is more like 12 months than 3-4 so I'll be watching with interest to see how it goes with you.

Folks keep telling me to just go ahead and get the surgery but I hate the knive and don't want to be down that long at this time. If it were only 3-4 months for real I'd be more inclined to do it.

I'll be sure to keep you posted.  I had it done on the right about 10 years ago and that one required they cut a "slit" in the shoulder.  This time they just have to scope it which means 3 or 4 "pokes" (holes) in the arm.

I do know that recovery does depend on how bad it is to begin with and Doc first told me that if it had been a year or so the muscles may have atrophied (sp) and this is another set of problems on top of the tear.

But hey, I've got my health????

Yes I understand and agree. But to be truthful, it ain't gonna happen. Not any time soon at least. I'll suffer on with it some while longer. I really have other medical conditions that need to be fixed even more. Am working on them first.

A pardette of mine had RC surgery earlier this year. She had torn the RC BAD in an accident. Took jist about six months from surgery to shooting again. But she was very dedicated about therapy and following the Saw Bonez orders!!!! Admittedly she shoots .38s and 20 gauge as her main match gunz, but she did it!

Good luck Pard, I'll keep you in my prayers!

Right rotator cuff done around 80
Left rotator cuff done about 88.  Couldn't hold a glass in my hand. Had atrophied and they had to drill an extra hole to get the muscle in.
Took me about 6 months for that one. Doing fine now, just need to keep exercising.
Surgical procedures have vastly improved since my time under the knife.
Just don't try to do too much, too soon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually found that my 12 ga has less recoil than my pard's 20!  Both are downloaded to "whimp" levels because of our right RC earlier surgeries.

Good news is I now have a valid reason for taking a hard look at the new RVs.  Lighter and still the Ruger quality.

'I love it when a plan comes together......

Just got released from physical therapy Friday and shot our club match this wek-end.  Arm got tired but really didn't hurt.  Guess I just need to keep doing the exercises and I'll get most (90%) of the strength back.

Thanks for asking,
