Went to pick up my new 35 Whelen prettiest pice of work I have seen in along time picked it up felt very well balanced and lite. That is when the gun dealer noticed a small crack in the wood near the receiver so small I could hardly see it .The man never paused and said he'd order another. That is a dealer I repect. Hope to get in time to hunt with it this year I know should have ordered it sooner, but didn't get the bug till other day.

One of the Grice CDL special order rifles? Mine is also light. Way too light to suit me in fact. Should be about a pound heavier than my LSS Mtn. Rifles but I think it is actually ligher. Mine has nice enough wood but nothng special. Just wish it was a laminated stock and SS metal as that's the way I like my hunting rifles.

I hate to hear your nice wood had a problem. The wood on my 35 Whelen CDL is ok, but nothing to get excited about. I'm still very glad to have one. I really like this cartrigde, and the 700 CDL is a good platform for it. Good luck with the next one.

The new Rem 35 Whelen is home been admiring it piked up a box of 200 gr. Core-Lokts. Does any one have any advice on what to shoot or load?
I probably won't get a chance to try it out till next week end but who knows. Momma done said I am cut off no more guns but I have heard that before. We will see. :-)

Do you mean the replacement for the one with bad stock has already arrived? That was quick if so.

There is a guy who's name I cannot think of at the minute. I think he lives in AK. Used to post here but I've not seen any by him in a long time. Jerry is his first name unless CRS has a hold of me again. Dang stuff gets me from time to time.

He has a Whelen list and the folks on it share load data with each other. He maintains the list and sends it out to members. No cost to join. A search on Google might turn it up. They are the single most comprehensive source of Whelen loading data out there. Someone here is bound to be a member of the list.

As for me I have Hornady 200 and 250 SPs on hand. I have some 200 RN RP and Hornady bullets laying around also. Got moulds and bullets from RCBS 200 FN and LBT 200 LFN on hand. Got Nosler 225 PT and BT and 180 HGPT bullets on the way. Need to contact Adam at Sierra and get some of those headed this way too. I plan to be using all of those in working up loads in mine. No clue what I'll settle on for sure. I plan to work up some cast bullet loads at reduced velocity for playing around with and mabye even some deer hunting.

Yea picked the sucker up yesterday they had it with in one day from the factory. Now with the rain and company coming. I don't know when I can get it out and sight it in would like to use it this season I should have gotten the bug sooner. :?

I really am interested in the 700 CDL in .35 Whelen but am afraid the caliber is too much for whitetail. The rifle may be used in the future for bear, elk, moose, but for now will be deer in MN. Currently I use a Savage 99CD in .308 which is my fav but would like to tinker with something new. I will be reloading.

Finally got the 35 Whelen to the range this afternoon using 200 gr Remingtons zeroed it in. It does have a kick, but I think I like it. Do belive it will go with me in the morning and if bambi shoes up I will find out what it will do for deer. A guy at the range today made the statement the difference between a shooter and a hunter is that the shooter doesn't have to track down his game. Does that sound right?

A 250 gr. speer hot core spitzer and as a load as is safe in your rifle with remington brass and primers loaded to just short of the lands with imr 4320 is about the best all around load in my 35 whelen classic. It shoots as tight as I can hold it, I hit the gong at 300 yards holding on the top of it at the local range and I shot elk, whitetails and mulies as well as an antelope with this load. The bullet is a little tough for deer and it kicks like heck from the prone, but man nothing has ever walked far that I have shot with it. imr 4064 wored well too as and imr 4350 was accurate but about 100 fps slower. The 250 Nosler partition shot well also but it drilled right through a small doe a shot with it. Heck of an elk bullet though. Anthony
