Is an Action job worth it?
« on: December 06, 2004, 01:53:38 PM »
I would like to know what you guys think about this subject. I have a Ruger Bisley 45 colt that will shoot right around 1.25" at 25yds (if I do my job) with 300gr cast bullets and I have a Ruger SBHH in 44 mag that will shoot 2"at 75yds with 325 gr cast bullets and a scope. The triggers are both smooth and break at around 3.5 lbs. There are no leading problems and the cylinders seem to be tight with little or no play. Would I gain anything worth the price of sending it in for a tune up or would I be better off to maybe just install an oversize locking base pin myself and spend the rest of the money on more bullets.

I want to thank everyone here for a great forum that has answered many of this newbies questions over the last year or so.

Erick

A smooth factory Ruger trigger is unusual in my experience and you shoot it well enough not to fix anything that ain't broke so I vote for door # 2, 'specially at $150 per. You might think about it if it ever needs to go in for other work.

Erick,
It doesn't sound like you have any problems with your guns.  An oversized base pin may or may not improve the accuracy of your revolvers.
Spend your money on ammo.
Best,

Sounds like you just need to consider new grips, possible base pin, but the best improvement for the money is a new mainspring....try    www.magicspringsbyseven.net

That sounds like a good gun to me. I wouldn't do anything to it except try to wear it out by shooting a lot.

If you have to ask if it`s worth the money for gunsmithing work, it`s usually not. Any customizeing you do you`ll never get your money back for when you sell the gun, so you have to justify it by useing it. Looks to me like your shooting good groups now, and unless your going to start shooting compitation and need every edge you can get that you just need to buy more ammo.
