Rugers Color Cased Finish
« on: January 29, 2003, 08:22:49 AM »
Does anyone know who does Rugers color cased finish for their Vaqueros?I know it is not a real color cased hardening method. It is a chemical finish film that is applied.

Can anyone duplicate it?

I'm pretty sure Ruger farms out some their work here in the Phoenix area.
I have talked to some that do their anodizing.

Don't know who does it, but it is such a miserable looking imitation of Color Case, that I don't think I want to know.  A "real" color case may not take on the Ruger gun steel.

What I have in mind the real color cased hardening finish method will not work. I want to put a color case finish on aluminum.

I know the finish will not look as nice but it would still look good.

If they can copy wood grains and a variety of camoflage then why not color cased.

I have a great idea.

Maybe an air brush artist can do it. But it has to be a durable finish like anodizing and bluing.

Yes. you could get a swirling mottled mixed color anodize on aluminum.  You will have to ask a local anodizer if he can do it.  I saw it years ago.  Color anodize uses color dyes in a normally clear anodize, and they have ways of mixing them.  Problem is you probably have a one-off small quantity, an anodizer may not want to set up for you unless you are a freind.  Big houses have big minimum orders.
