I never use filler of any kind in reduced loads. I've heard horror stories of bulged barrels from fillers that didn't leave the bore. If I was to use a filler, it would be grain meal, or Cream of Wheat, with a wad to separate it from the powder. If it didn't exit the barrel, no damage could occur.

Hi Bill74
I used Puff-Lon this summer in my Marlin 336CB in 38-55 (also .45colt Low-wall)...Was looking for a very quite, accurate 30 yard load..... Load was 1.3 grs. of bullseye using a 250gr. cast bullet.....Results were 3 shots touching and one 2" high and another about 2" low for a group around 4" in most cases...Tried alot of different things, such as changing bullet size, primer type, and crimp pressure but couldn't do any better than that, so gave up on the 38-55 and the .45 Colt as I felt that with that small amount of powder and that big of a case I wasn't getting a consistant spread of powder over the primer.... going to try same project next summer with .357 mag, 25-20, and 32-20.....BTW it was a very quite with the noise level of a CB cap....I'm more concerned about chamber ringing than any thing else, and felt pretty safe that won't happen with Puff-Lon as opposed to dacron fillers... If I owned and shot older, rare rifles like marlinman93 does I would not use any fillers... in a modern rifle you can just re-chamber or replace the barrel (if you ring the chamber) and not lose the value of the rifle...If you try it please post results... cheers mic....... :-)

Hi
I have used dacron and wool wads in reduced loads in .303 British, 8x57mm and .223 with no ill effects over the years.
In the large cases I load as little as 11gr of 800X with a tuft and ever load has been fine.
I would never consider using these loads without a filler.
Cheers

Jeff
