204 Ruger How do you like it so far?
« on: December 07, 2004, 12:14:17 AM »
Im just curious,

For those who have tried this caliber on coyotes, how do you like it so far?

How have your results been?

Is this as fur friendly as is suggested?

Im thinking of picking up one of these barrels for my Encore, and I just wanted to hear of others experiences

THanks

While I don't have one my friend Barry up in PA does. His is a Ruger #1 with the SS metal and gray laminated wood stock. The groups he has shown me from it beat anything he has ever sent me from any of his other guns. I've seen a bunch of the photos of his ground hog, crow and fox kills but no coyote yet.

With 40s damage to hide on exit is massive. Some times the 32s also exit with massive damage but not always. I'd say if you're looking for minimal hide damage do not use the 40s.

My results echo Greybeard's friends.  I have a Cooper in 204.  The most accurate rifle I ever had.  No furbearers yet, but it hit about 30 groundhogs at various distances.  An exit hole seems unpredictable.  Sometimes a massive blowout at 200 yards but other times no exit at 60 yards.  Stopping power is all but flawless.  Any hit above the knees is an instant kill.  I've only tried 32 grain factory loads so far.

No, I haven't tried the Remingtons yet.
I do have everything I need to reload them, but haven't loaded any yet.  I just discovered Sierra is making some bullets for it too.

How is the report?  Is it very loud?  What can you compare it too.

Can you see the hits through the scope?  Or is there too much recoil?

Sorry, Im just really interested in this round.

I bought an A-Bolt and finally got to take it out today. Called a dog in to about 100 yards and he sat down in the sage brush only giving me a chest shot. Went in, turned the whole inside to grape jelly, didn't exit. Kinda like thsi one.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
