Ruger's New Vaquero and Blackhawk...YEEHAH!!
« on: December 07, 2004, 04:32:48 AM »
Ok, Maybe I am a little excited...ok alot of excited...while at the Grocery store I got the Shooting Times "Guide to Ruger" mag with reviews of their new line...and then Jeff at GUNBLAST.com reviewed the new Vaquero...I called Ruger, they said some may trickle out before the new year, but in Jan we should see them in full distribution...
I have been thinking of getting another Single action from them...and now I know I will...
My Pop is waiting for a Vaquero 45colt...
One thing that makes me happy is that they index properly...when it clicks the open chamber is lined up with the gate, not passed it...

Anyone else lookin' for em'?

:D   I too am eagarly awaiting the new Vaquero 45colt.  Several months back, when buying guns to get into Cowboy Action Shooting - I didn't choose the Vaquero because the grip was just too wide for my hands.  However, I always liked the "strength" of the Ruger.  In the end I liked the feel of the USFA better, so that's what I got.

The new Vaquero is supposed to "feel" more the like the Colt SAA, basically by "thinning" the grip.  Can't wait, I guess I will just have to add another 2 pistols to my collection.

Question - I am assuming that Ruger is only "slimming" the grip, but the pistol will still remain the "strong" pistol on top where it counts?

Acording to gun blast, its not as strong as it was before...but stronger then an old model or colt....
the slimmed it down all over...cylinder, frame, grip, and changed the indexing and the shell ejector...

I believe a lot of folks have their heart set on converting the Vaquero or the flat top to 44 spl. I have a few old model 357s that are now 44 spls. You'd think Ruger would offer that caliber on the small frame but they have other ideas most of the time.

Targetshootr, maybe they will offer it in .44 spl!  They seem to be listening to the customers very well right now.  It certainly looks like possibly Bill held back some ideas from coming to market.  Now that someone else in control, it looks like we are getting some of the things we have been asking for.  Now if they will just take that stupid warning off the barrels.  I'm getting tired of polishing it off every Ruger I get!  Maybe if they have to keep it, they will at least put it somewhere unobtrusive, like on the bottom of the gun butt.  44 Man

Maybe someone should suggest to them that they put the warning on the ejector rod housing.  That way those who are most likely to "need" the warning will have it.  But those who really, really dislike the warning, probably are gun enthusiasts and have an understanding already.

The ejector rod houseing would probably be easier to polish it off, OR some aftermarket company could supply them at a reasonable cost.

The question is, will the chamber automatically line up for loading/ejection like REAL single actions, or is it just another lawyer's design? If the latter, they can keep it.

From what I read, the chamber is supposed to now line up properly for loading/ejection
