Back from Oklahoma hog Bowhunt
« on: December 07, 2004, 05:44:36 AM »
I took my son-in-law on his 1st hog Bowhunt last week & we had another super time at Shiloh Bowhunting Ranch for hogs near Stonewall.  I arrowed a nice good size Red hog near the end of the 1st day after missing 2 earlier.  My son-in-law had a couple misses also but managed to arrow one the last morning of our Bowhunt.  This is his 1st year Bowhunting & his 1st ever Bowkill.  We scheduled this hunt during our Gun Deer season since I only Bowhunt.  Now, just waiting for gun seasons to end so can try for a late season Buck.  Good luck to all still chasing Whitetails.
always thankful

Twice shot hog

Just before Christmas, my son and I had a chance to hunt hogs that were on some property that borders an orange grove.  I was setting on a stand with a north breeze blowing.  At about 5:45 PM, what I thought was a small sow came by me to the North.  I started to shot but could not settle on my pins.  I knew she would go to some corn on the ground.  I waited.  When she started eating the corn, I tried again; however, I could not see the pins.  I then turned on my pin lite on my sight.  Great.  I shot her and hit a quartering shot on her right rib cage. The arrow came out under her left leg.  /The broadhead was cutting her left leg as she ran.  She took off like a rocket.  I waited to hear if she went into the palmettos behind me.  Not hearing that, I waited.  After awhile, I got down and walked to my son.  He said he heard me shot and hit her.  She had run about 150 yards to his stand and stopped.  He shot her. His shot crossed over the top of my arrow.  I asked, " where is our pig?"  She had crossed over into the grove.  We took our flashlights and pistols to see if we could find her.  She was one row in.  When we tried to approach, she tried to get up.  Not wanting to chase her in the grove, we decided to go get our truck.  We got back and waited until we could approach her without her running.  Since it was late, I finished her with my pistol.  We then realized how big she was.  We drug her to the truck.  We could lift her back feet into the truck but could not lift her totally.  We tied her to the truck and drug her to the tree he had shot from.  We used a come-along to lift her to allow us to drive the truck under her.  She was eating oranges as part of her diet which made her good eating.
