.452 Hard Cast Bullets?
« on: December 07, 2004, 08:32:10 AM »
I am in the market for some new bullets.  I am down to my last batch of Bull-X .300 grainers that were Moly Coated (to reduce leading), and can't find them on the web anymore.  I pondered the idea of casting my own, but don't know anybody to show me.(and I am one of those that has to be shown!!!)  I would be interested in trying some homemade ones, or if somebody has a cast bullet that they highly recommend.  I will be pushing them out of my FA .454 at 1300 fps.  Want to do alot more shootin'. Thanks, in advance.

I had pretty good success with 300 grain Laser Caste bullets in my SRH.

What the hell IS a hardcast bullet?  My bullets fall into a bucket of cold water from the mold and normally measure around 15 BHN on my LBT hardness tester.  Is that considered "hard"?  Does anybody have any objective standards they can turn us on to?

I consider any bullet as hard as wheel weight hard cast. SO your bullets would qualify. Creeker is an advertiser on this fourm sells good bullets.

Who knows what hard is? About the hardest commonly available is 21-22.5. Kelly has these at Cast Performance and I think Marshall at Beartooth.  Our standard bullet is 15 BHN. We offer most our bullets at 9 BHN also.

Our standard bullets were shot at the Linebaugh meet one year and did well though not as hard as some tested. IMHO 15 is hard enough. Most my personal shooting is done with 9, even the mag loads.

I've tried so many brands of cast bullets that I can't remember them all. Cast Performance are awesome, and that is all I use right now.
