Because a 700 short action is a pain to find (especially SS) and usually end up costing as much as a lower end rifle I'm considering getting one of these Remington LV's in 7-08.

The fairy weight barrels gotta go, but otherwise the rest of the rig might be good as is. Has anyone handled one of these? My main concern would be that the stock doesn't suite well for off hand.

Maybe I should just buy a cheap ADL, for the action and start from scratch?

From what I understand, the M7'S action is not quite the same as the M700's, in particular in the way the trigger is hung. I'm not sure what other parts are interchangable but one day may want to take advantage of readily available 700's aftermarket stuff like Ti firing pins, triggers etc. Don't care for the M7's factory stock and the 20" barrel.

Gonna a be a Hunter. I'm presently shooting a Tikka in 308. It's a great shooter as is but there's not much that can be done with it  barrel wise for it's at 9 lbs with a 22 inch barrel. Also, I don't like the three round, non top-upable mags for sil. shooting. I'd also like to go 7mm or 260.

I do have a Sako short action Hvy rifle but I don't want to butcher it. Our local good gunsmith likes Remmy actions and Gaillard barrels.

LV looks like a fine rifle: but I wouldn't buy one just to get the action which is about all you'll end up using. I figure the best bet is patience and pawn shops!! find a beater all you're needing is the action anyway and who knows you may luck into an old ugly stock that nobody wants that just handles great ofhand (cause it was built for hunter back before the last two rule shifts, seen it happen). I think the mass movement in those upgrading today is in the fiberglass stocks, alowing what is essentially a STD weight barrel and still making 9lbs. That's another thought , one gun both classes, strategy does have merit as all practice is with one gun.
Good luck and don't look back whatever the choice, it is just a game

ps if $$$ no object forget everything I just said and order a Hall, or just have Nesika build one for you.
