Mossberg SSi

I happened to see a Mossberg SSi 270 cal in a local gun shop today priced at $350. I sort of liked the feel of the gun and how it handeled. Can any of you tell me any thing about the gun and its quality and how it shoots? I sure would appreciate any info regarding this gun.

According to what Mossberg told me they have discontinued the SSI, not dropped it, for whatever that means. Suffice to say they have stopped making it, and barrels.
I have one in 30-06 and a rifled slug barrel also. The 06 shoots great average groups around 1.5 inches, haven't shot the slug barrel yet. The trigger was very heavy and gritty when I got mine but some polishing and smoothing with a Wyoming stone M_ke B__lm smoothed it us very nice. The gun is a little heavy for a single shot but is very well made and locks up tight. I like mine and will keep it, I'm looking for a 308 Win barrel, but haven't had any luck. I'll use it for blinds and tree stands where I won't have to walk a lot during the day.

Steve-Thanks for the info on the SSi. I have not yet made up my mind to take the plunge because I am concerned about finding extra barrels and/or parts. I located a 308 barrel at SIR Mailorder Inc (their item 106008) but when I called they confirmed availability however they are in Canada and can not ship out of country.
In case you want to follow up the tel # is 800-265-6245 and you can get website at www.sirmailorder.ca

Been there done that with Sir Mail Order last year. You can get extra barrels on places like Auction Arms, Gun Broker and Guns America  from time to time but have seen all the other calibers except 308. I believe they only came in 270, 30/06, 308, 223(heavy& sporter)12 Ga smooth and 12 Ga Rifled. I'm pretty sure  that is all. I really like mine. If you ever run across a 308 barrel let me know.

I will be glad to let you know if I run across a 308 barrel. By the way they were also made in 243. Take Care.

Have had the SSI in 22-250 for about 2yrs. Really like it and was able to get extra barrel in 308 about 1 yr ago. Still like the SSI but Ultimate Outdoors, the website where I purchased the 308 barrel,no longer lists any barrels for the SSI.Confused if Mossberg will ever resume production of this rifle or extra barrels.Mossberg's website still shows the SSI but has not been updated since summer of 2003.

I saw one in 30-06 at the Harrisburg, PA gunshow a couple weeks ago.  It looked minty.  Asking price was $239!

I have handled one a few times at a local gun shop a few times,it is a 22-250.Seems like a fairly nice rifle.I am going to guess that lack of sales is why Mossberg isn't making them anymore. It lookes as nice as any TC I have ever seen.

Personally, I'd save a few more bucks and keep my eye out for a Ruger #1. Don't have the barrel swapping capabilities, but what a rifle. Look into a NEF they are a good rifle for the dollar. Had 2 and both shot very well. Had an extra barrel made for 1 of them and it shot very well. Just my 2 cents. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Steve :D

I picked up a 308 SSI on clearance in December at Dicks Sporting Goods.  I couldn't pass it up they only wanted $150.00 and I brought home the last one they had.  I have not shot it a lot but it appears to do well.
