Anyone else seen a 307 Winchester Contender barrel?

Hi,

I picked up a 14" barrel that had been rechambered to 307 winchester. Has this ever been a factory offering. It was a good deal but I am wondering if I can fire factory ammo in it safely. Does anyone know what the pressures are. I figured if it worked in a 94 the Contender should handle it but wanted to see if anyone else had any experience or pet loads.

The 'Big Bore" Model 94 you are referring to was much heavier constructed gun than the standard 30-30 model. I have seen a couple barrels chambered for .307...which by the way is loaded to nearly the same level as a .308. I would pass as there are plenty of proven .30 caliber wildcats that achieve the same thing without problems. If you already own it......you may consider it a 'reload only' to starting load proposition. I certainly wouldn't sell it to an unsuspecting buyer.

No reputable gunsmith would rechamber a TC Contender barrel to .307 Win but some fly by night out fits have. No I'd not shoot factory ammo or full level reloads in it. Can be a nice barrel however if you reload for it sanely.
