hatchin' a plot to order an NEF: 7mm-08?
« on: December 08, 2004, 09:30:08 AM »
my gun guy's wholesaler has a special on the wood/blue 7mm-08.
can get one for $215 out the door (i don't begrudge him a $30 profit/fee).
this is just about to the penny what i could order one from wal-mart for, pay tax and get it out the door.

what do you 7mm-08 handi owners say about this offering from NEF? been easy to find a factory load? (i'd handload at some point, but not during the current deer season.)

by the way, i handled an NEF in .45-70 at lunch ($209 plus tax). wood/blue. and one of the sweetest triggers i've ever pulled on a factory rifle. if not for the expense of the factory ammo, i do believe i'd have put that one layaway. it's at a different store, by the way. out the door would be $209 plus 5 percent, which would make it about $219.50.

the .45-70 with a known, sweet trigger? or the 7mm-08? help me, i'm sick. i fell in love with my son's .308 ultra. now i want another NEF for myself.
His,

A sweet trigger is not hard to do yourself so don't let that part hold ya back on your decision. Everything you need to know to do it is right here at your disposal...

The 45/70 is just about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on.
The more I listen,the more I hear....and vice versa.

45/70..it's almost a religion.

I just picked up a 7MM-08 for my daughters first deer rifle.  I paid $239.00 for it, so I think I'd jump on one for $215.00.

I really like this gun so far.  Shoots really good with 120 grain Sierra soft points and Varget.  I've got it loaded down for her to shoot, and she shoots it really well.  I put a youth stock on it (Thanks Emmett).

Most have pretty good luck with the Hornady Light magnum loadings, both the 139 grain and the 154 grain loading.  I tried some, and they shot pretty good.

As far as the 45-70 goes.......well, I've got one of those too.  I say buy them both    Or, get the 7MM and send it off for a 45-70 barrel.

Good luck and let us know what you end up getting.
