Currently having problems with sabots that are difficult to load.  Shockwaves are incredibly difficult and Powerbelts seem way to loose.

Any ideas on what sabot to try next?

Thanks

You might try a different brand of sabot itself to try on those Shockwave bullets.   Maybe Harvester or Knight Sabots might make them easier to load.

Also put a little "dabble" of spit around the outside edge of the sabot before you load it - that helps sometimes.

Trust God..........but keep your powder dry!

I have a CVA with the same style Spanish barrel - I am using Nosler Sabots and they work really well with Hornady-Nosler-Speer- and Sierra bullets.  I think they are the thinnest sabot out there followed by Harvester, then TC Mag sabots.

I not sure what sabot comes with a Shockwave but you might try a Nosler.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I just purchased some powerbelts for my Omega, the guy at the store recommended them cause I was having a hard time getting Shock Wave Sabots down the barrel, they came with  a jacket thing, the powerbelts do not.  I am skeptical that the powerbelts will just slide down on their own or too easily.  Is this a problem if they fit too loose?

Powerbelts shoot just fine out of my stainless .50 Omega. If you are having problems with sabot/bullet combinations the Harvester sabots are a little thinner and when replaced on a Hornady SST I can get it to load in my Omega. With the Hornady sabot it is a real chore and sometimes impossible.

If I remember correctly the Hornady sabots are made by MMP as are the T/C sabots.  If you look for different sabots to try with the shockwaves you may want to avoid these brands as they should all be the same.

Yes it is a problem if they are too loose.  If the bullet comes off the powder charge and creates a gap you could have a serious problem with high pressure spikes and detonation.  Not to mention poor accuracy.

I would not be concerned about the bullet getting off the powder unless you are carrying your rifle on a quad with the barrel down. Omega barrels are pretty tight and when the rifle is carried correctly the chance of bullet moving is pretty remote. I carry Powerbelts for follow-up shots as they are fast to reload. First shot is a a 300gr. Hornady SST with Harvester sabot. I found that combination shoots almost same at 100 yards as a 295gr. Powerbelt in my Omega.
