Any 204 Ruger barrel Range results yet?
« on: December 08, 2004, 02:43:06 PM »
Well, I haven't seen any results so why not ask?

I want to get either the 204 or a 22-250, I have a 223 so other than that I might go with the ultra slug 20 ga., or maybe a BP barrel.  Heck the only one I know I want I don't see any info on and it's the only one the board doesn't talk about.

Yup, they're here, just not a lot of us have em yet...I have only shot a dozen rounds thru mine, but it looks very promising with a 1" group at 100yds with the 32gr hornady Vmax ammo, got 2 boxes of Rem 32gr Accutips this week to try next trip to the range. Fall salmon fishing and hunting season interupted my range time...

I am still paying mine off, it will probably be home in January or February before it's home, but I am curious to know if 223 will chamber in the 204.

223 in 204

Yes I'm sure 223 would chamber after it was sized down to 204,
But I would NOT do it because you would have long free bore,
Thence when you fired could burn or foul up chamber where you couldn't chanber 204 ammo. Highly  possible acc wouldn't be to good, just my 2 cents. Marv.

If that were possible, the .204 boys would be doing it. They either have been buying once fired .204 brass or going through a multi step process using 222 mag brass.

FYI...there is a pretty good article in this months(Decembers#232) Handloaders magazine on the 204...it's called " A varmint Hunter's Dream"  and from the authors results it seems to be true....and getting a nice barrel in it doesn't seem out of the question for me...

Sorry I was not clear I did not mean convert 223 brass to 204 If you neched it down I would guess there would be a dangerous head space condition the same as if you fired 223 in 222 mag.

I varmint hunting partner shoots a 223  I figure since the 204 is longer and of smaller bore there is little danger of it even chambering and if it does fire i should just rattle down the bore.

But if I am not careful can a 223 go into the 204 chamber. Or will it hang up at the neck?

No it won't chamber, the .224" bullet is too large and the shoulder of the .204 is much higher than the .223 rem. You can't chamber either in the other, if you do, they both leave about 1/8" of the case sticking out of the chamber, I tried, just for kicks. As far fit, they fit each other like a glove of to that point.
