Author Topic: Barrel extensions??? (Read 461 times)

I am looking at purchasing a riffle stock for my contender for coyote hunting. The problem is that the barrel I would like to use is only 14" long and it must be at least 16" long to leagally use it with a riffle stock on this gun. Correct? A couple years ago I saw an item on eBay that claimed to extend the barrel to the leagal 16". If I remember correctly it was some type of slip-on flash hider. Does anybody have any information on these or similar products that might help me? I'm open to suggestions and I know the right thing to do would be to spring for a new barrel, but at this time of year the old lady would have a cow if I bought myself another Christmas present.

I had quit a few Encore pistol barrels that I sold, I kept my 15 inch 30-06 barrel and had a 4 inch muzzle brake installed for under $100.00. It is now 18 1/4 inchs long and I use it on a rifle stock. According to the gunsmith it is now a legal rifle barrel. It was a great shooter out to 200 yards as a pistol and it still is as a rifle.

I like the suggestion of having a smith install a muzzle break better though.

Choate made a barrel extension. I have two of them that will be hitting EBay before long. You have to solder them on to be legal....... But they do slip right on and can be removed.

You have to make sure the muzzle break is permanently attached and cannot be removable to be legal if used on a rifle stock. It can be what ever length you want on a pistol grip though if it is not permanently attached or permanently attached .

If I had a handgun barrel that I liked as is, befor I would spend $100 dollars makeing it longer I would just put the twards a new carbine barrel. I picked up a new .204 ruger barrel for $235 and it should be an excellant hide hunting round for coyotes, or you could pick up a good used .223 or .22-250 barrel for around $175.

Good, the idiot who is selling the slip-on is missleading folks, and that could get you a nice Federal rap. What's wrong with the following statement?

"Designed to extend 14" barrels out to 16", complying with Federal Regulations regarding minimum barrel length (must be permanently attached when using a folding stock)"
