Gonna get a new Hoyt, which one?
« on: December 08, 2004, 06:09:43 PM »
I'm strongly considering a new Hoyt bow but cannot decide between the Ultra Sport or Ultra Mag.  The only difference is the limbs and $80.

As far as I can tell, they both weigh the same and are rated the same speed.  The Mag has the XT2000 limbs and the sport are laminated fiberglass.

What are the advantages/disadvanteges of each?

(Edit) also in the draw weight, I'll be shooting about 60lbs.  MIGHT consider working up to 65 for elk, but not sure.  Would there be a large difference in effeciency with a 60-70 set at 60 as opposed to a 50-60 set to 60?

Both of those bows will be a pretty good choice.  I am not going to say that one is better than the other, just go with the one that you feel is the most comfortable.  Lots of guys like a shorter bow vs. a longer bow, so pick the one you like the best, that is about the difference between the two.  And yes, the turbotech is nice as far as speed goes, but way to much vibration and noise for this shooter, plus at 70 lbs, it about pulls your arms out of their sockets if you shoot it a lot!
Accuracy doesn't come from the arrow, it comes from the Indian!

I have an '03 Hoyt Ultratec with the XT2000 limbs. I put 100+ shots per week......now closing in on 20k shots through that bow and it has never missed a beat. I think the Ultramag would be a great choice, I'd spend the extra $80 and get the XT limbs.
