Belated hello again, One Hole 45 70, I missed Kip yesterday, as he went to his fishing shanty when he left work (part time gun smith, but full time Postmaster). I caught him today. Turns out I was wrong again ! He uses heavy shot only in his modern shotguns. He feels heavy shot is too hard for ML shotguns. especially the double guns. You know, the swage out the choke and separate the barrels thing. He uses Bismuth for waterfowl, and lead for everything else. His buys his wads from Track of the Wolf, so I will include Track's stock number after the wads in case you want to order from their online catalog. If you have their paper catalog, the wads are a couple of pages from the back. Here is his load. The spout on his flask throws 62 grains of 2f Triple seven, or 80 grains of 2f Swiss black. he has good luck with either. 1/8 inch Nitro card over the powder(12 ga.) #WAD 12 A, 14 ga. fiber cushion wad #WAD 14 C. He says you should soak the cushion wad in Olive oil, or melted lub, and it swells to 12 ga. The spout on his shot bag throws 1 1/4 ounce of bismuth or lead. Over the shot he uses a 12 ga. overshot #WAD 12 B. He says that he has no trouble with the second charge loosening under recoil, but if you do (check the second barrel with your ram rod a few times, until you are sure it is staying tight), use two cards over the shot on the second barrel. He also told me to tell you that you should consider buying Track's Flameproof shotgun powder flask. They cost something over $50, but are worth every penny. He bought his shot bag from Track too, but says it is like every other one he has seen spout wise, so if you see one elsewhere for less money, buy that one.
