It's a recesive gene... except for the indian fokelore aspect I don't understand why you'd try to favor them in the gene pool.

In Maryland and Delaware it is OK to shoot White deer. And shot them I would.  :D

It is illegal in the state of Oklahoma to shoot a white deer without a special permit.

The Native American belief or as you put it  indian fokelore pertains to the White Buffalo. Not White Deer.  :D

:D In the High School in Arcadia WI they have mounted a huge white buck. Some years back my buddy and I stopped and took a look at it. This one wasn't an albino and didn't have pink eyes. There was a newspaper article with it.
I can remember if it's legal or not to shoot one. I would guess not. There are also piebald deer around. I haven't seen any white ones and I can see no reason not to shoot them but game laws in WI are not all rational but sometimes political. :D

The White deer hide was desired for weddings by the Native Americans, the Sacred White Buffalo has a totaly different meaning to us Native Americans.  :grin:

Legal in PA. Just encouraged not to eat the meat (due to the fact that if the deer is albino that it probably has something wrong with it.)  :D

Terribly poor advice from someone who obviously hasn't a clue about albinoism. I've debunked this one before. Totally baseless rumor.

Hmm, now think about that one a moment. Those eyes in the mount don't belong to the deer. They are glass. Basically same can be said for nose as it's always painted on mounted game anyway. The hooves if a full mount would be a give away as they should not be black. If mounted wrong the traits that distinguish a true albino from a white hide deer can be lost.

it is legal here and i would i dont now about the hole disese thing i dont know why it would make a diffrence but i realy duno. i now if done right they make rely knice mounts.

Albino deer are protected here in Michigan.
 It seems to me the law was passed shortly after some (censored word) killed & beheaded tame Albino (with a huge rack) that was in a petting zoo type enviroment.
