I'm looking @ a factory Encore 209x50 black powder pistol from Cabela's.
I have a $200 in credit and a new Burris 2x sitting on the shelf for it. I realize Encore triggers are not adjustable for weight of pull. I called Fox Ridge, they said I could send it and they would lighten it to a min of 3lbs for free. (sounds good) The gun is blued with wood for $480.

1. should I pay extra for a stainless reciever?

2. bullberry or virgin valley the way to go for future barrels or are factory barrels as good or very close to them. I've heard factory barrels can be rough.

3. what kind of groups should I expect with 777 powder and what is a good starting load.

4. what should I mount the burris with. (they make t-sob yet.?)

Hi RP - I've got a 209x50 Encore handgun rig that I'm very pleased with. Mine is a foxridge 15" w/the T'SOB mount & Burris 2x fixed. My load is 100 grs. of Pyrodex RS Select w/the 300 gr. T/C XTP. From a rest, I get just over an inch at 100 yds. I run a Knight solvent soaked patch through the barrel between each shot. I would avoid the stainless receiver - it costs more and requires more care than the blued. The stainless receiver contains blued parts, and I think that T/C stainless steel rusts easier than blued steel. I also think that the custom manufactured barrels are much better than the factory ones - I've got multiple calibers from SSK, Virgin Valley, and Bullberry which I think are all great. I do have a foxridge 12" 444 Marlin Encore rig that I am VERY pleased with though (it shoots great and doesn't foul). For mounting a scope, the T'SOB will not fail you but it is expensive. An alternative is to buy the T/C mount and secure it with red locktite threadlocker with Lexel bonding sealant. This has worked great for me on some really hard kickers - every bit as tough as the T'SOB.

I picked up a blued Encore Saturday w/ the 15" 209X50. I have three bullets a couple 240's and a 200. I picked up some 777 loose and pellets.
All they had for a mount was the T/C Weaver type (alu) I got it but I'm already scowling with disaproval. Were you refering to the T/C mount that is one piece with the rings?
The trigger weight is horrible! I had them put a scale on it @ Cabela's. I'm sending it to T/C to have it corrected.

RP - congrats on the new pistol. From my experience, the trigger pulls on newer manufactured frames are quite bad (lawyer triggers). I've sent two to SSK - expensive, but they sure came back great. My early frame from 1997 is OK as is. The scope mount I was mentioning was the Weaver style base. It works good if it's secured properly, but yes, the end will have some overhang on the tapered barrels. I don't have any experience with the duo-ring mount but I would think it would work OK if it's secured tightly to the barrel as well. From my experience in the pistol, the lighter weight bullets are more difficult to load and don't shoot quite as good as the heavier ones. Let us know how you make out.

I did'nt even bother to shoot the thing with that miserable trigger weight. I sent the frame back to T/C to have it lightened. I requested 3 lbs.
I'm looking forward to smokin 2 or 3 Iowa deer with it next fall.
