Hand bore lapping???

How do you hand lap a bore properly without messing it up? And would fire lapping be easier or better? I've never had to do this before, but I detect a little roughness in my recently acquired 223 UV.

Proper lapping involves using a poured lead slug. But an easy way to just polish the bore is to use a tight fitting jag, cleaning patches and JB Bore Compound. I forego the moly bullet step...

While this isn't any scientific method...it certainly can't hurt...for your 223...get a slightly larger bore mop...257 cal...and soak it good with Filtz polish...run it thru the breech and bore 15-20 times...then clean it with a good bore cleaner with a brass brush and then push a couple of tight patches thru it...I did this one my new ultra 25-06 and it seemed to make the patches go thru a-lot easier...and it certainly didn't hurt my groups none either...
