Guys I was told today about a totally new hunting round that will be out very soon. I'm told that within a week or so full info on it will be on the SSK Industries web site. Had a long talk with JD today and he briefed me on it but I'm sworn to secrecy so cannot reveal any details more than what I've told you.

I'm sure all the magazines will be out with it in their next issue and JD will have the info on the SSK site in the next week to ten days. Yeah there will likely be another mad rush to it when it comes out. Nope I won't be in the rush. It's way more than I have a need or desire for but a bunch of you will be shooting it in January or February I'll bet.

Well, I think it is a S/W500 necked down to a .20. A 32 grain will be 4800FPS out of a 12" barrel. Out of a 4" 4000FPS. Very little recoil & good out to 800 yards. I am sure I got a smile out of some of you!!!!

Well I'll tell ya, I'm sure breathing a sigh of relief. If there's one thing we are short of its gun cartridges!! Yep, there just ain't enough variety and some of us are having to scrape by with just a dozen or so!

Hey and in my estimation this new one is even more useless than another short fat magnum .30 would be. I'm just passing it along to generate some talk. I won't ever be owning one of them.

I'll toss ya'll one more bone. It is NOT a JDJ or any SSK creation. See I've ruled out one possibility. Now it might be from any other source in the whole world however. :lol:

You guys just need to keep checking the SSK Industries Website until it shows up there. Besides you might even find something else there you'd like while waiting. :eek:

I think I know what it is - it's a new wildcat that's all the rage. It's a 460 Weatherby Mag necked down to .17 to accept CCI's 17 grain TNT bullet. Velocity is an impressive 36,000 fps, but throat erosion is a bitch! :lol:

You never mentioned - Is this cartridge "intended" to be fired from a handgun or a rifle?

If its too big for you then I'm guessing its 50cal+. :-D

To give a straight answer to that I'd be giving away more info than I'm free to give away at this time. I will only say it will be chambered by SSK in the Encore but not in the Contender. Who else will be chambering and in what I'm not at liberty to discuss.

I think I found the new round it's 264 RLB various loads will begin spring 2005. SSK and T/C Encore have been contracted to make barrells.

If our head researcher, Mr. Frosty, is correct as usual, then I'm already disappointed. 2700fps from a 24 inch barrel and a rimless cartridge sounds like no improvement on the 6.5JDJ. Now if it could get an honest 2600fps from a 14" contender barrel with 120 grain bullets, it would really be something I'd take notice of and it would be an improvement.

It looks like the 264 is based on the 6.8 Rem SPC. I think the last catalog from Fox Ridge Outfitters showed the 6.8 as a Contender caliber, but if I look on their web site now this caliber doesn't seem to be listed for either Encore or Contender. I guess they must be planning on running higher pressures on the 264 if they aren't going to offer it in the Contender. If it's an Encore only proposition, I'll stick with my 260 Rem.

I cannot say if Mr. Frosty is or is not correct about that round but I can say it is NOT the topic of this thread. The one I'm referring to is something still different yet. I've checked today on the SSK site and the other place it should be revealed and it's not yet either place so I still cannot divulge anything that would tip you to it.

I'm sure they will be lots of new cartridge announcements shortly after the new year. This will be but one of them. When I see it listed on either of the two places I expect it to show up at first I'll spill the beans but not before then.

With the support, creativity, and expertise of a handful of members here (who are truly dedicated reloaders) we have collectively designed a new wildcat cartridge called the 264 RLB. This new wildcat cartridge should prove to be an excellent target, varmint, and deer size game cartridge. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback from the custom shops, die manufacturers, and powder manufactures that we've spoken with.

The prototype rifle for this cartridge is a T/C Encore Rifle. SSK Industries has been contracted to make the barrel which should be complete in December '04. Initial testing of various loads will begin in the Spring of '05. Additional information on the 264 RLB is available on the Reload Bulletin Board.
