Ok, Im starting this thread independant of the previous since it really is a topic all its own. To re-cap, here in NH we can legally hunt turkey in the fall using bow ONLY for three months (and all day, not just till noon.) Now first of all Im dont know too much about fall turk hunting, so any advice outside if what is about to be discussed would be appreciated.
So here is the heart of it: In NH it is illegal to use dogs to hunt turks. That means no busting a flock that way. As mentioned in the previous thread I had thought about using a remote controlled car, but that idea just dont seem very practicle. Ive also been told that trying to run into a flock to bust it up is useless as we are just too slow and would probably scar the flock, but not bust them up. I read in one book about firing a shot over the flock, but since the fall season is a bow only proposition I dont know how the Fish and Game department would take this. Maybe a start gun or blank firing pistol could work. What yall think?
I think most turks taken with the bow in fall up here a shot by guys out deer hunting who happen to have the turkey stumble into ther hunting area. Id like to actually hunt for them with a purpose, though. So any advice Id appreciate.
One last thing. Shot placement. I hear a lot of people pick a spot near, but just below, the wingbone joint at the body (or close to there.) But I was watching a hunting show where a lady was using a .44 Mag pistol to hunt the birds. She said the best place was along the bottom and back of the bird as, she says, the heart and important vitals are there. She said it seems pretty far back, but thats just how they were made. And sure enough she did drop a bird. So whats up?
