CELL PHONE SPAM PROTECTION
« on: December 11, 2004, 08:27:17 AM »
I just registered my phone.you will probably want to as well.

In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing
companies and you will start to receive sales calls. Call this
number from your cell phone 888-382-1222.  It is the national Do Not
Call list.  It blocks your number for 5 years. Please pass on,

You may want to share. Your private cell phone numbers will be published
and shared w. telemarkets.  This Do Not call *800 must be called from the
cell phone u want to put on list

If it does no more good than being on the list with my home phone then it's a waste of time to register. This is more of a feel good measure than a real help. Never a day goes by I don't get one or more on my home phone and I've been on the list since it started.

Yea besides it is against the law for telemarketers to call cell phones from what I have heard so I am wondering if this is just a big scare tactic?????? Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Cell phones will soon be spammed--now is the time to curtail as the cost to the spammer if caught is $11,000/incident.Unlisted #'s are picked up by random dialers.

I posted the link for others.
I didnt do it  myself, not because I doubt its going to happen as I'm suprised it took so long but because I dont like registering anything with the Gov, it just bugs me.
I dont answer my cell if I dont know the caller anyhow. What bugs me the most about it is it'll cost people money in the form of cell minutes.
I'v no use for telemarketers. If they had somethng good to sell then they wouldnt have to fish for customers. JMO.

I have unlimited incoming calls and Waaaaay more outgoing any tiime minutes per month than I'll ever use plus free weekends and evenings. Heck maybe even holidays for all I know. The sucker stays turned off all the time unless I need to make an outgoing call. Didn't buy it for incoming only outgoing and mostly for emergencies or to bug Matt with the two way beeper deal.  :-D  I really get his attention when I page him and it goes off on his end sounding like the world is coming to an end.    :-D That wakes him up.

I use mine alot, probly more than my home phone.  I put the people I wish to hear from in it & if I dont know who's calling theyre outta luck.
They can leave messages tho so if it turns out to be important I can call them back. Got caller id at home & its the same deal except they cant leave a message. I'd get rid of the home phone all together if it was feasable but someone I want to hear from might need to use the book to find me both to call or for my adress.
Far as  I'm concerened telemarketing oughta be aganst the law.

Thanks Wisard. :D

I for one am going to get on the list.  I  agree with the other guys about 'just not answering if you don't know who is calling' BUT, there are other issues involved, for me anyways, ie:

cell phone memory.  I probably have enough memory, but I really don't know.  A person could get dozens and dozens of spam phone calls while the phone is unattended.  If my phone was "off"  for a week for whatever reason (fishing or hunting trip), what would that do.  Suppose I have several pictures on my phone and I am just on the edge of filling up my memory....

missed calls:  Man, I sure don't want to spend 10 or 15 minutes a day deleting missed calls from my mailbox.

messages:  Here's a bad one.  Some of those jerks leave messages, especially the automated ones.  That interferes with my important calls, and again I have some trash to delete.

for the hell of it:  I WANT the sorry a$$es$ to pay the $11,000 :) .

These are just a few "side" issues for me :D

Email Raising Panic With Cell Phone Users

Email states your cell phone number will be given to telemarketers.
THERE`S AN E-MAIL FLOATING AROUND THAT`S NOT EXACTLY A SCAM, BUT IT`S NOT ENTIRELY TRUE, EITHER.
IT INVOLVES YOUR CELL PHONE AND THE NATIONAL NO CALL LIST.
BUT LAWMAKERS AND CELL PHONE COMPANIES ARE URGING CUSTOMERS NOT TO PANIC.
THE EMAIL GIVES A DECEMBER 15TH DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR THE NATIONAL NO CALL LIST AND WARNS IF YOU MISS THE DEALINE, YOUR NUMBER WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO TELEMARKETERS IN A DIRECTORY OF CELL PHONE NUMBERS.
THERE ARE TALKS ABOUT A 411 DIRECTORY FOR MOBILE NUMBERS, BUT THEY WON`T BE AVAILABLE TO TELEMARKETERS AND THERE`S NO WORD IF THE DIRECTORY WILL EVEN BE LAUNCHED.
THE PHONE NUMBER IN THE EMAIL IS CORRECT TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE, NATIONAL NO CALL LIST 1-888-382-1222
YOU CAN REGISTER BOTH YOUR HOME AND MOBILE NUMBER, BUT ONLY ONE AT A TIME BY PHONE.
THE WEB SITE IS ALSO AVAILABLE AT WWW.DONOTCALL.GOV
PROTECTING CELL PHONES IS GOING ONE STEP FURTHER IN MISSOURI.
A PLAN FOR LEGISLATION HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED THAT WOULD ADD
CELLULAR PHONES TO MISSOURI`S DO-NOT CALL LIST.
THE BILL WOULD INCLUDE BOTH BUSINESS AND RESIDENTIAL CELL PHONES. IT WOULD
ALSO MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO SEND TEXT MESSAGE SPAM TO A CELL PHONE NUMBER ON
THE NO CALL LIST.
BUT ONCE AGAIN....
THERE IS NO DEADLINE FOR THE NATIONAL NO CALL LIST YOU CAN SIGN UP AND SOON ENJOY A TELEMARKETER FREE LIFE.
