My first coyote gun Savage 112 .223?
« on: December 11, 2004, 12:28:17 PM »
Hello everyone.  After looking through the site many times I have decided to join.  I am just getting into coyote hunting in Iowa.  I have never owned a centerfire rifle before but have the opportunity to buy a used one from a guy who has quit hunting.  The gun is a Savage 112 .223.  It's the internal magazine, synthetic stock, and heavy bull barrel.  the only pictures or references I can find to the savage 112 are to the Savage 112BVSS.  This is not the same gun.  Does anyone know anything about the gun I am looking at?  Don't know how old it is but it does not have the accu-trigger.  Also It comes with a sling, case, and a Tasco Pronghorn  3-9x40 scope for $300.  Is this a good deal?  It's only had around 50 rounds shot through it.  Thanks for any help and hopefully I'll be sharing some pics and stories about my first yote kill very soon.

Roosterman,

As for it age I am not sure but it could be only a couple of years old.  Except for the scope the rest seems to be an excellent deal.  Personally I wouldn't pass on it.  You can always get a better scope in a higher power.  I would mount a good 4-16X, 6-18X or even a 6-24X on any .223 Remington.  Makes them longer shots easier.  Lawdog

Lawdog,
Thanks for the reply.  I have posted this on a couple of other sites and the consensus seems to be that it's a good deal.  I am going to pick up the rifle at the end of the month.  I think that I am going to put a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x 40mm scope on it which runs about $280.  Is this a good scope and is there any others that might be better, for around the same price +-$50?
