At a  gun auction recently and pick up a 14" 35 Whelen barrl, dies and brass.  Need to start playing with it and work up some loads.  Anyone have some loading data on this.  Thanks

You can find rifle data in any of the major reloading manuals..you may also try the different powder manufacturers web-sites..I use Hodgdon's alot.  I doubt anyone has any data devoted to a 14" pistol barrel though.   Any rifle data will be safe..but I'm sure the muzzleblast and recoil is going to be horrendous!  With experimentation you might be able to reduce the flash and dampen the recoil some...but I wouldn't expect miracles..

I use a stiff charge of 4964 and the Sierra 225 spitzer and Nosler Bal Tip when I can find them. Recoil is stiff but not as bad a full-house 250gr load. Accuracy with either 225 is superb!  It is one of my favorites. I only ever shot one doe with it though, and only the 225 Sierra hit her quartering toward me. At teh shot she jumped straight up in the air, took 2 bounds and layed down. I reloaded and finisher her, but it was not needed. Full penetration and I don't think the expansion was enormous. I think the Sierra is too tough for deer. Go for the NBT! I bet the Hornady 220 flat point is a hammer on deer and bear!
The first shot is the best shot, it may be your only shot!  Do it with a single-shot.

Wrong spinafish!!    I have data for a 15" Encore (whats an inch)
I use  a 200g Hornady sp, with 57.6g of IMR 4064, Large Winchester primer, & Remington case.
Out of My barrel it give me 2245 fps.  and is SAFE.
I had BLACK MESA  port my barrel and it is very managable, and accucate!!!   but loud!!!!

cowboyhat;  you didn't say what you have the barrel in?  I hope it a Encore!

Thanks.  I was thinking about using 4064 or 4895.  I use both in my 375 JDJ, but am pushing a 300 gr roundnose or 270 sp.  Have both 180 sssp and 200 sp in 35 caliber. Looks like the 200s will be the first trial and go from there.  Thanks again.    ( yes it is an Encore )

I just hope that his barrel is ported or he will be chewing on the grip.  I did twice before it was sent out to Black Mesa!!!

There is one powder that really shines in my 16" Competitor and that is 2015 br with 200 gr rem it runs 2600 and accuracy Is right at 1" .The big kicker is there is no muzzle flash like there is with the other powders that you can use in this caliber .
A new caliber for deer every year...what a way to play!
