The new savage, anyone shooting it yet?

If you are what do you think?
I looked at one the other day and it sure feels nice in the hand. They had a big price tag too.

What is the sense in preserving collectible items just so they can be auctioned off by uncaring heirs for their pecuniary value ? I am inclined to believe that vintage cars are to be driven, old wine is to be drank, and fine guns are to be shot.

You need to look into the reviews on www.hpmuzzleloading.net done after a field test.  The gun blew up.  If you are looking serious at one, it is definitely worth reading.

I have had several different muzzleloaders but never a savage. Once I found the Encore I quit looking.  :D

That don't look to good.
I have had several muzzle loaders too. As for the encore I've had 2 of them and kept my optima pro.

I looked at one but it looked a lot more difficult to clean than my Omega and there is some extra piece in the chamber that has to be replaced fairly often (not sure what that deal is but didn't impress me much). Smokeless is not legal in Arizona anyway so that pretty much made the decision for me. I have other Savage rifles that I like but probably won't buy this one.

I have had a Savage for 2 years. What a great rifle.
You get a little more range than the other guns. Best of all, you can hunt all day, make a shot, and not have to clean it.
These are rugged rifles, and very accurate.
Yes there is a story of an exploded Savage on the hpmuzzleloading site.
There is a lot more to that story than meets the eye. The guy whose gun blew up has said a lot of misleading statements. If you knew all that went on regarding this event you would not believe a word that this guy says.
Maintenance of the gun is not a big deal. There is a vent liner that has to be replaced every 150 shots or so. It is in the breech plug, screwed in with a little allen key.
So every 150 shots you pull the breech plug and change the liner, it takes 2 minutes and costs $2.
I highly recommend the Savage.

a lot of people turrned therer back on toby, fuuny is all of those thought he was the best before the mishap,  and now he is bad.  i laugh at that

Hi my freind has one he had a knight Disk rifle and sold it and got a Savage it shoots good he likes it alot he gets some good groups out of it and he said you dont have to clean it like a blackpowder ML to me i just dont know abot the smokeless powder i will stick to my Remington 700 ML i like it VM

If everyone were to be honest about the Savage barrel mishap, it could
possibly be determined to be a problem of too much ignition which
detonated, rather than ignited the powder. The three-hole vent liner
certainly had a short life! There were a LOT of suggestions on the Savage
board that fast burning powders should not be used with that liner.

I ordered mine and got it for $525 delivered. Am I satisfied with it? Well,
I'll still play with the Encore, but this Savage beast will probably be my
hunting rifle from now on. The 10ML is a little more difficult to clean than
the Encore, but when using smokeless in the Savage, one needs clean it
just a little more often than a center fire. (Most of us clean them more
often than that, but it isn't absolutely necessary.)

One of the loads I tried turned out to be very accurate and dropped an
8-pointer like a rock this fall. (OK, the Encore has done that, too, but this
time, I actually got to SEE it, rather than trying to look through a thick
cloud of smoke!)

Would I do it all over again? Derned tootin'!!!
