ok, it looks like the 22 LR is a lead bullet that is more or less swaged to the same diameter as the case whereas the magnum is loaded like a regular bullet that is pressed into the case and maybe crimped. so magnum are probably some sort of jacketed bullet too then, right ?

Yes, some .22 Mags are loaded with jacketed bullets and some are loaded with lead bullets, some are solid points and some are hollowpoints, same are even polymer tipped, all depends on what you need it for and what shoots best in your particular gun, just like centerfire ammo except you cannot reload it....<><.... :grin:

it would be nice if some one offered 22 caliber rimfire loading components !

an excuse to buy another whole set of toys !!!!

and, i sent my latest acquistion, a 22 rimfire sportster, back to the factory for a set of iron sights.

everyone shuld have a .22 LR with iron sights!!!! But I do think your new .17Mach2 is going to be a great camp gun. Although there is still a lot to be said for a .22 with iron sights shooting shorts, CB caps, Super Colibris or even .22 LR shot cartridges around camp for pest control.. on a happy note ( :grin: ) I may have found a .22LR barrel for my Sportster frame, a member here may have one to sell me in a month or 2!!!....<><....:grin:

after i close on the house thursday, i'm going to stop at my favorite gunshop and get that 17m2, it will be a fun gun, even with ammo at the outrageous price of 11.4 cents for each shot !!!! (grumble grumble)

i should either order a 22 mag rifle or get a 22 mag barrel for one of my sportsters. it's like oatmeal, it just sounds like the right thing to do.

so how does that NcStar work ? good i hope.

It does work well but I see what you mean about the parallax, the dot does seem to move more with any undue eye/head movement than my others. The one with the least movement is my 1" Millet, next followed by my 30 mm Simmons (less side to side here than vertical movement) and the 45 mm Ncstar has the most. I think it may be a function of the size of the viewing area. If your head is placed on the stock exactly the same for each shot it is not to bad and I have been able to shoot some great groups with both my Simmons and Millet Red Dots from the bench. I think for hunting shots at the shorter ranges, 100 yards and under they may all work OK but think for the best target work a scope with fine crosshairs may still be the best, but for hunting these red dots are hard to beat ....<><.... :grin:

For the one who asked why they make the .22 mag "fatter"....

They make them fatter so they WON'T FIT in the .22 lr chambers...

You guys sure bring back memories!

When I was a kid I used to go with my dad on Saturday mornings to the local FRM feed stores in our area. We bought feed for the horse, hogs, chickens or whatever we had at the time.
Wooden floors! Horse tack! Feed! Hay! Animal medications! I love the smell of a place like that.

I had to have another package of BB's.

Ahhhhhh.....the smell of horse feed still makes me think of BB's!!!

Glow .fatter and longer for that reason,Many still will shoot othe 22 Rims in the chambers though,

Buffalogun, great memories!!!, when I get up to camp I always like to stop at he local feed store, My wife can always find something to buy to feed the birds or deer and I can just enjoy!!! A cup of coffee from the pot thats always on or a piece of candy makes me feel happy and sometimes like a kid again!!!! ....<><.... :grin:
