Remington 673-350 Rem. Mag.?
« on: December 12, 2004, 02:37:40 AM »
My local gun dealer got these Rem. 673's through a dealer buyout. He called me to tell me he had a great deal on them if I was interested. $499.00 for the 673 in 350 Rem.Mag. I haven't had much experience with this caliber or rifle, and passed on the deal. Now I'm havind second thoughts. The rifle is based on the Mod. Seven action, with a retro look five band laminate stock, and a milled ventilated rib, weighing in at 7.5 Lbs. Wally World lists these rifles for sale at $640, so the $499 does seem like a deal. The 350 Rem. Mag. is very close ballistically to the 35 Whelen.  I always liked the Marlin .35 Rem. I had, and this cartridge takes that .35 to limits never imagined in the .35 Rem. What do you guys think, should I go for it, or let it pass?

I don't much care for the looks of it with the rib on it. If you're gonna use it with irons it's likely a good idea but if you plan to scope it and not have a readily removeable scope then you'll likely want to take off the front sight and rib.

If you want .35 Whelen performance a bit cheaper than the CDL which is available in Whelen then it's a good buy. Not a super buy but a good buy. I paid $579 for my CDL in .35 Whelen. That's only $80 more than you're talking about. In light of that do you still think it is a great buy or just an OK buy?

Greybeard,
Thanks for the information, it helped me make up my mind. I did a lot of reading, and searching, and your right, it doesn't seem worth it. I don't think the .350 Rem.Mag., would have a problem keeping up with the 35 Whelen, but this rifle isn't the platform for it. Ruger has the Mod. 77 listed at Wally World as being chambered for the .350 Rem. Mag. for $463. On the other hand, the .338 Win. Mag. is also listed in that rifle at the same price. In the long run I think I'd rather have the .338 Win Mag. if I'm to get a new medium bore, wouldn't you agree?

Thanks,
Don

Nope I'm not a magnum kinda guy. I'd take the .35 Whelen I have or even better the 9,3x62 if someone made it in a gun I'd own. I will never own a .338 Mag. But that's just me.

Big Blue

Does that dealer still have any of those 673 - 350 Rem Mags?

Davidson's (galleryofguns.com) has the 6.5 Rem Mags at $550. on SALE (Wholesale)!  I'd really like to get a .350 Rem Mag.  I missed them the first go round.  The price sounds terrific.

If you'd let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
