I went to a gun show yesterday in search of a good bolt action rimfire rifle. 2 guns there stood out, a brand new Ruger 77/22, and a very old Winchester 69a. I had a hard time choosing, but the Winchester just felt better so I bought it.
It's a clean original, spotless bore but a few stock scratches and bluing flaws. I don't have the gun yet so I don't even know how it shoots...
So what are your opinions, did I make the right choice?

ps... the Winchester cost over $100.00 less, but that wasn't a deciding factor.

Caliber: 22 S, L, LR. 5 or 10 shot magazine. 25-inch barrel. Weight: 5.5 lbs. Plain pistol-grip stock. The model 69A Bolt-action Rifle was the same as the model 69 except the cocking-action was changed to cock on opening motion of the bolt. Made between 1937-63. Note: models with grooved receivers command 20% higher prices.

i used to have a win. 69-a. it was very rough! but it was very accurate! if it had a grouved reciever, i would have reblued it, but it needed a lot of work.
as far as the 77-22, though ive never owned one, they seem like they are well made. but if i was going to spend that mich i would buy a cz!!!
i have owned a few of those and still do, they are the deal of (the middle of the road) for sure.
the fact that they dont make the model 69=a makes it a good buy!

You made the right choice. I have owned 2, the first a mint target rifle that I sold for what I thought was a ridiculous price (alas, too cheap) and a beater that I bought for $100.00 and fixed up, scoped, and used for several years. Sold it to an older gentleman who would not take no for an answer. Very accurate, adjustable trigger, excellent barrels. Do the stock work with some care in bedding the barrel and you will not be disappointed.
