7-08 Ram Loads

hh4064;  You're gonna' love this. I have been using 39.0 grs. of IMR 4064 behind my 168's for years. I tried the same charge with the 175's and they shoot 1 1/2 min. flatter at 500 meters. I might also add that they really thump the rams. I haven't chronographed the 175's but my 168's are around 2525. I might also add that I have a 8.5 twist in a Kreiger #3 24" sporter barrel slapped in a 700 Classic wood stock. This configuration  is my hunter rifle made by the "old" rules.

Thx for the info AL I too am getting a Kreiger barrel. But it was advised to me to use a 1-9 twist cuz I am also going to shoot 130gr MKs. My friend Ray from KC has been shooting a 7-08 1-9 for the 175s for a while now and says it handles  them just fine.
Thanks again
hope to see  you on the range one day

39.6Gr. of Varget, CCI BR primers, Remington brass, 162 Gr. AMAX

2566 fps at muzzel

Works well for Rams, wasn't impressed on how the AMAX works for deer though.

hh4064, I shoot a 7br and my ram load is 31.5grs of varget with the 168 SMK the velocity is 2400fps, and it does well on the rams. My barrel is a 9" twist and I tried the 175 SMK with 31.2 grs of varget they grouped about a 1/2 inch a 100yds three shot groups. Sierra told me this bullet needs a 8' twist, but I'm going to test them for accuracy at 500 meters in the spring and see what happens.

I use 41.0 grains of VV N-550, CCI-BR, Lapua Brass, with a Sierra 168 MK.  I'll leave a ram standing every now and then, but that's the way it goes.  By the way whatever load you decide to go with, I would cross reference it with a manual and I wouldn't start with the full load.  Jim

My 7-08 Ram Load consists of 41.8 grains of Varget pushing moly-coated Sierra 168 Gr. HPBT bullets out of 7-08 Winchester cases, using Federal 210M primers. Works great with my Tikka White tail Hunter. I have yet to lose a single ram I have hit.  :cb2:

I have 2 rifles in 708 one is a Sako 75 stainless with a 22 3/4  this rifle loves R15 (38.1gr) with 168smk molly bullets Rem neck resized brass and FED210 match primers MV 2406. The other rifle is a Rem 700 short action with a 24 inch douglas barrel and it likes 38.6 gr of r15 with 168 SMK molly Fed 210 match primers. MV2450fps.   the r15 is good powder very consistent readings in hot or cold weather low extreme spread.I have been using the 168 load for cpt and rams.I have had very few ringers on the rams          anthony g

Has anyone tried the 175 SMK's slow? How low can you go before accuracy starts falling off?
