Gunsmith in Northeast Alabama, cut/recrown barrel.
« on: December 13, 2004, 02:21:03 PM »
Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a good gunsmith in the NE Alabama/NW Georgia/SE Tennessee area for shortening a barrel and recrowning?

Any idea about cost for cutting and crowning?

Thanks,

JCM

I honestly don't think there is one anymore I'd recommend. If you find one I'd sure like to know. I know of a couple places but will not recommend either.

For me NE MS would be too far. Anywhere that's too far to drive to drop it off is too far. IF I have to ship it there are scads of excellent gunsmiths to chose from. I'd sure like to again find one local who can and will actually do a decent job on even small things. Someone you can drive to and either wait on it or drop it off and come back a week or so later.

There is the gunworks on highway 60 about 5 miles west out of Cleveland TN.  I've had a few things done there and have been pleased.  He does mostly repairs and trigger jobs, fits recoil pads etc...... I've had to leave my guns there for a month before getting them back and there are always a half a dozen customers there...... He does pick and choose what he will work on.....his rates are reasonable........I like the fact that he will not take work if he doesn't like or can't do the work......might give him a call.

Thanks guys.  I appreciate the info.

MS would be a little to far unless I had other business and it could be done while I was there.

Cleveland is a little over an hour away so that is workable.

Again, thanks for the info.  Greybeard, I'll drop you a line if I hear recommendations of anyone else.

Have you tried Jimmie McCullough in Selma?
