CR's new gun cart
« on: December 14, 2004, 03:30:41 AM »
Hi CR,

Love your new gun cart and wonder if I can ask a few questions.  I'm a newbie and still considering what style cart I want.

Here's my questions;

When you haul your cart to a shoot, do you haul it all assembled or is it disassembled and put together at your destination.  If you assemble it on site, do you have some type of latching arrangement for attaching the various pieces that speeds assembly.

How do you transport your guns; do you use gun cases or do you have another custom built box (like a rifle box as seen in old westerns) that protects and secures them in transit.

What type of vehicle do you use to get to and from the match.

And finally,  because I am no longer in my 20's or 30' (or 50's for that matter) what is the weight of your cart.  I am also a musician, and the hauling of my amplifier equipment is beginning to take it's toll, so I am most interested in a cart design that maximizes usable space and minimizes weight.

My questions are open to all who care to respond.  Thanks in advance for your asnwers.

John

Take a look at the carts made my Shootin Cart's Jimmy. That's what I used. Folds up compactly enough to fit truck of most other than tiny cars and is light enough for even an old fart to lift. If you have a pick up, van or SUV it will fit great. http://www.shootincarts.com/

This is the one I have.

Here is another.

Hi John,

Assembled/Dis:  Depends on the distance to the match.  As I live all of 10 miles from out club range I usually break it down into front ammo box (this is heavy on mine cause I've got enough ammo to start a war), the bucket, top box and the top box hangy thing (tech term).  Then just man handle the rest into my truck.   I've got bolts and wing nuts that hold the rifle rack part on the base part.  I went with the smaller wagon at Wal-Mark as I knew I would have to lift this.  Takes about 5 minutes to get it unloaded, assembled and loaded up with the guns, water jug and stuff.

trans guns:
long:  went to Academy and got a couple of their double rifle cases, abut $25.  They do nicely and will fit inside of truck.  Not looking for old west here, just safety
revolvers, holsters, etc:  Wal-Mart in tools has a canvas tool bag, zipper on top and double handles.  Tan in color.  I carefully cut the logo off (razor blade) and does a nice job of looking "sorta" like a carpet bag.  Midway has real carpet bags for $40 or so.  Wally World's was $16 each (got two of them)

Vehicle:  Dodge Datoka 4 door pick-up.  Had their earlier version 11 years ago and finally wore it out.  New one now offers 4 doors--makes it nice to store stuff inside.  Do have the problem of what's in the bed getting rained on but we can fit everything but the wagon and rifle rack inside.

Let me know if you need any more info.
