Home Made Cough Suppressor
« on: December 14, 2004, 11:01:45 AM »
Just wasted $25.  Two weeks ago I developed a cough.  Was headed to deer camp and decided I needed to order a "Cough Suppressor."  Went on-line, found what I wanted easily and ordered it.  Knowing it wouldn't arrive in time for the weekend, I tried an experiment.  Took a 0.5 liter water bottle and inserted six each, select-size (about 5" long by 11 inches wide) paper towels, each rolled up tightly and inserted them in the water bottle.  Shook them so they expanded. Then I used my trusty pocket knife and vented the bottle with two holes on the rounded top portion of the bottle.   Worked like a champ.  Got my $25 gizmo this afternoon and it doesn't do any better than what I did.

That's sounds like a good mufler.
One of our guys read where you could make your rifle shots quiet by putting a plastic bottle over the barrel. Wanted it for grouse while deer hunting.
He went down to a sand pit, and tried it with the 30-30.  :)  :)  :)
Bottle looks like it had an H bomb in it, and they said it sounded like a cannon.
Another one to add to Goofy stuff done with a gun.

this sounds like he tried to make a sliancer withc is very illegal!

if you put a normal soda bottle on the end of a firearm and fire it. the gasses can not excape fast enough. now if he used a 2 ltr bottle and a smaller round it may have worked byt atf will be knocking at his door.

Your right on all counts, except up here it would have been the RCMP. It was just an experiment, and besides, the bottle covered his sights  :-D

Good job.  I will use that, but I will have to keep it separate from my pee bottle. Maybe a different color... :D

I like the cough suppressor idea.  As for the P bottle, I use a sports drink bottle (like Gatorade).  Fits right in one of the outer pockets of my backpack and the larger cap and mouth opening makes "taking care of business" much easier.  I camoed mine with camo duct tape.

Pee bottle?
« Reply #9 on: December 24, 2004, 09:03:07 AM »
You guys are too polite.  I just pee on the ground--it really works well in the woods.  BTW I read and article in one of the "definitive" hunting mags about a study that showed deer are not afraid of manpee.   Apparently to a deer,  p is p.  They observed deer smelling  pee of all kinds and none seems to bother them.  Go figgr.

Funny thing is, Mountain Dew both looks like and tastes like pee normally  :)
