What scope do you have on your big bore? I

On my Winchester Model 70 Super Express .416 Remington Magnum I have a Leupold 4x matte finish mounted with plain Weaver bases and rings.  I have fired about 150 rounds from this rifle with no problems.  When I owned a couple of Model 70s in .375 H&H, I used either 3x or 4x Leupolds on them with no problems.  I've never felt a need for more magnification.  Whatever you decide to get, ensure that it has a good amount of eye relief.

I have the SAKO .375H&H and I use the Zeiss 3-9 x40 MC. The main reasons for this choice are eye relief of 4"; I find that the view of the barrel and the front sights detracts from my concentration leading to my choice of 3x min which has proven quite adequate for me for short range; this version of the Zeiss scopes is not that expensive so if recoil from full power loads does do damage it's not that big a loss. Also this is one fine, bright, clear and high detail resolving scope. Having a 9x power available can  be useful shooting out to 300 yards....High power is never a disadvantage provided optical quality is not compromised and the low power end is suifficient. I would, however, hesitate to use a min 3x in dense bush at very close range hunting of dangerous game. But then my SAKO 375 /scope combo is not used for African DG or Alaskan grizzly.

I have a Bushnell elite 3200 on my Marlin 450 guidegun, works well for me, but I would not hesitate to use the new Mueller scope line, just received a 3x10x44 reddot, great quality and well built for half the price of those high end brands, I'm putting this one on my Rem 700 243win, the dot is great for low light levels. Optics are so clear. Rich Schlampp has figured out how to make a high quailty scope for affordable prices, good for us ;) Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

I haven't heard too much on the Bushnell Elite series.

I am currently scoping a BRNO ZKK 602, 375 HH and am seriously looking at the Elite series.  My question is will the 3200 be strong enough to handle the recoil or do I need to go to the 4200 series?

KIndest regards,

Max

The elite series is a high quality& high recoil scope, also has features like Rainguard/Firefly...The firefly works great in low light levels.
I have one on my Marlin 450 giudegun and my Ruger MarkII 338 winmag, they can take the recoil of either of these rifles, I'm sure they can handle anything you can put them on, hands down, when you look through the optics, this tells it all;) very clear, basically you are paying for the high quality optics(glass), when it comes to high end scopes(tight tollerance with parlex is important for long shots. Check out Mueller's scope line as well, Mueller also offers a good quality scope for a reasonable price's, He also has a reddot type, either way you can't go wrong. I just got the Mueller 3x10x44 Reddot(controlled brightness knob)I like it. Good luck. Aim small hit small. RAMbo.

1895g...
I just put a Scout Mount on it and was going to use my Nikon 2x handgun scope...am I runing a risk of killing my scope with the 45-70...
anyone ever use the Bushnell Trophy Red Dot on big thumpin' guns...
Better put, when these red dots are made for 3.5" 12 gauges would that make it tough enough for 45-70??
Thanks...

5 yrs and counting Leupold VX2  2-7 on a Ruger #1H chamberd in 450Watts. I just like the looks on the faces of other guys kids at the club when I open the action and that 2.85 inch long brass drops to the ground, after their father just got done yapping up his 7mm mag. :-D  :-D      8)   Not that I have any thing against the 7's, that just seems to be the usual "Hillbilly" rifle around here.  I am unusual.

For my 375 H&H I have a streight 6 power Leopole. No problem. On my 416 Rem I have a 23/4 power Burris.

Hi All,

Here's my 2 cents.

I only have 2 big bores, a 375HH and a 45/70.  The 375 wears a Leupold VX-II, 2x7.  The 45/70 is a Ruger #1 and wears a Leupold Scout 2.5x.  Fact is, I put 2x7's on everything except my varminters (leupold 6 x 16's) and a couple of custom rugers, a 300win and a 270, which wear leupold variX-III's 3.5x10.

In reality, I seem to shoot most game on 2x or 4x and have never felt under powered with a 2x (except for pronghorn and mouflon when I really needed 6x or better from a prone position).
