Does it have enough weight forward to steady the rifle?

Just bought a new Ultra 223 with a24" varmint barrel. The barrel and forearms weighs 4lbs and 13-1/2oz. Pretty heavy. Almost as heavy as a BR barrel. Don't know what the 308 22" barrel weighs but it should be plenty front heavy with the rifle weighing 7-8 Lbs.

Just calculated the contour for an octagon barrel it works out I will/can loose 1.16 lbs and some more, slimming the stock down and use a fixed 6x scope for a total weight of 7.5- 8 lbs. for the 257 Roberts. Thats about what my 25 Hunter weighs. with the 24" length it has enough forward weight for a steady hold.

The laminated butt-stocks are very heavy too being soaked with glue. I always hollow out these stocks that puts more weight up front. This is a good way to balance the weight.

my son's .308 ultra heavy barrel balances, carries and aims itself. for such a stubby, almostly ungainly looking thing, it carries far lighter than it is, it swings into position effortlessly, and it do hang on target. i killed a 6-point offhand at about 50-60 yards a couple of weeks ago.
