I have discovered the strangest thing, when shooting off-hand. I always tried to shoot with both eyes open, and as I have got older it gets harder.
I am constantly critiquing my stance, posture, hold, breathing, trigger...etc. My scores have fallen and been eating the dirt lately, so I decided to get back to the basics and relearn how to shoot. In doing this I cut a piece of foam rubber 2x4 inch square, with a hole for the scope piece. I then slip this piece over the back end of my scope, and this helps me focus on the target and reduces distraction for my left eye ( I am right eye dominant, and right handed).
After playing around with this setup I noticed that I was scrunching up my left eye as I shot. This seemed weird, I was keeping the eye open but I was really squinting with it. In theory this eye should be relaxed, I am only using the right one. So I have made conscience effort to keep the left eye relaxed and bang my scores have increased by 6 animals. I jumped from the mid 20's to mid 30's. So a simple fix has completely broken my plateau that I fell into the past year or so.
Is this weird? Has anyone else had this experience?
