Guys:

Been shooting quite a few Rem Subsonics lately. So far, so good...haven't run into an problems and they're fairly accurate. Anyone else shooting a subsonic round...if so, what have you been shooting and what do you recommend?

I like them a lot. They seem to kill squirrels better than the high velocity rounds for some reason. I shoot them in a Contender pistol. The problem for me is availability. I can hardly ever find them. Remington quality control is also spotty so one batch is often not as good as another. Generally I stay away from Remington rimfire ammo, but I think Subsonic is their best offering.

They are one of my favorite hunting rounds in a rifle and revolvers. They don't cycle too well in some semi-auto handguns. I have tried them in a Walther P22 and a Walther PP and had trouble with both of them. Maybe it is just the Walthers. I haven't had ANY trouble with them cycling in any of my semi-auto rifles. (10/22, Browning, Remington Nylon 66)

I, and my grandkids, shoot them for several reasons. They don't bother the neighbors, they don't hurt ones ears, and in my old rifles (Rem. Model 4 RB/ Win. Winder) they don't over-work the action.

They shoot minute of squirrel head from my single six and my old mossy.
They kill squirrels well and do not deliver the ear piercing crack of the high velocity stuff. Not that the noise of the regular LR's are that bad but the subsonics are much more tolerable. The 22mag from a pistol will make you a poster child for miracal ear

:cb2: I've always had great accuracy with the slower moving .22s. Try the Standard Velocity and Small Game rounds from CCI, too.

That Mexican stuff with the 60-gr. bullet was accurate, too, but it dropped like a brick. At 100 yards you have to use morter ballistics.

I like the Remington SubSonics, never had an problem with them. The shoot REALLY in an old Remington 511P and my Marlin Papoose. They even cycle the bolt *most* of the time in the papoose. Pretty quiet too.

The subsonic round that most of my rimfires like is the Aquila SE subsonic. My CZ American loves it and will shoot on ragged hole at 50 meters with it. My Single Six likes it too but it shoots everything pretty well. The Aquila seems to group the best in it though.

The Aquila Sniper SubSonics haven't been very accurate in any of my guns except the Single Six. I like the idea of a 60g bullet but I don't own anything that shoots them as well as cheapo bulk pack ammo. I've heard that a tighter rifling twist will make a difference but I haven't tried anything tighter than 1:14.

Used Rem Sub-Sonics two seasons for Indoor Light Rifle shooting. Accuracy was fine; however, about one in 10 or 12 was super sonic. Was easy to tell which were super sonic due to the loud crack. Switched to Federal Gold Medal loads---no more surprise cracks. Also tried Eley's various .22's. Wish their lube wasn't so messy. Other than the lube, they are superb in my sporter weight Anschutz. Not nearly as good in my customized 10-22. The lube gells/hardens in cold weather and accuracy goes out the window. The present lot I have of CCI Standard Velocity are excellent in the 10-22. I HP them for squirrel hunting.
